Opiates are a derivative of the Chinese poppy plant. This plant is used for many properties, but the primary source is for its narcotic effects and pain relief. This drug has the ability to block the pain receptors in the central nervous system. The pure narcotic that comes from this plant is morphine, which is used in a number of medications. A derivative of morphine is used to create heroin. When ingested, the individual can experience great sensations of euphoria, which is why this drug is so addictive. The body also slows down, breathing slows and the individual can experience drowsiness.

There are synthetic forms of opiates as well. These forms are combined with morphine or codeine. There are also entirely synthetic creations of opiates made in pharmaceutical labs. Synthetic opiates are called opioids and the two main opioids that are abused are oxycodone and hydrocodone. Opioids are used in creating pain medications and analgesics. Support for the Recovery Process

Support can be a needed crutch throughout the recovery process. When an individual in recovery surrounds himself with support, it can help them maintain focus on their sobriety. This support can begin within a drug rehab facility. Cirque Lodge residents are supported by a very caring staff and their fellow residents. With the Cirque Lodge family program, family members can discover how to create a supportive environment within the home. After a stay in the opiate addiction center is completed, support is also found through continuing the 12-step process.

Prior to the client leaving the Cirque Lodge heroin or prescription drug addiction center, a care plan is created. This plan helps to coordinate the efforts of the recovery process. Individuals who are in recovery from opiates can greatly benefit from attending Narcotics Anonymous meetings. A sponsor is usually assigned to those who are new to the community. A sponsor is a valuable one-on-one support and can help with the transition period between rehab and regular life. Sponsors are individuals who are in successful recovery and have been sober for some time. They provide an example and experiences that the individual who is fresh out of rehab can benefit from.

Cirque Lodge alumni are also provided programs to help with support. Those who remain close to the facility can attend a weekly aftercare meeting at our Studio facility. The Studio opiate addiction center also houses local Narcotics Anonymous meetings. Every September, Cirque Lodge holds its annual Alumni Reunion. Graduates of our drug rehab facility return to the serenity of the mountains and receive support from one another. It is very touching to see these growing numbers of those who have found sobriety through our addiction treatment program.
