Cirque Lodge is a private and exclusive addiction center in Sundance Utah. It is known for its caring and unique program. To compliment the clinical therapies and an introduction to the 12-step program, the Cirque uses experiential activities. This variety of therapeutic venues, challenges and activities are utilized in teaching needed skills for the recovery process. It is a way to provide the struggling alcoholic or addict with opportunities for vital spiritual experiences. Such a spiritual awakening can be a foundation for long term sobriety goals.
Recovery from alcoholism or drug addiction requires internal changes. The individual has got to want to change within themselves before it can become a reality. External factors play an imperative role in this. Support and treatment can be quite influencing factors, but when it comes down to it, the desire to change has got to come within the individual. At the Cirque Lodge
addiction center and rehab, the focus is to give residents with ample chances to experience this change. It can come through the therapy and treatment of the drug rehab program. It can also come through the different challenges and events of experiential work. Each resident is different, and the variety of programming provides clients with different chances at an internal shift.
Experiential work is a central part of the
addiction center facility at Cirque Lodge. Each day is filled with different elements of addiction treatment programming. Incorporated into this is a different experiential activity. Some are intended to provide cognitive lessons for recovery. Some provide residents with a therapeutic chance for spiritual enlightenment. Others provide a chance for fun and enjoyment in sobriety.

The balance of therapy and experiential activities had become quite an effective approach to addiction recovery. Cirque's mountain location provides a number of different venues and opportunities for this unique style of recovery programming.
Horses in an Addiction Center
An alcohol and drug
addiction center and program isn't usually equipped with horses. The Cirque Lodge addiction center has horses and a stable onsite. They are used for a unique experiential activity that we call equine therapy. Residents of Cirque Lodge can develop important lessons for recovery from working with the horses. It is a unique and powerful experience for clients. Different lessons are learned and gained from working with the horses. A member of our experiential staff oversees the activity as the alcoholic/addict tries to gain the trust of the horse.
The equine experience teaches the alcoholic/addict profound lessons about themselves. The horse provides a direct an honest feedback. The individual who is use to instant gratification must work to gain the trust of the horse. For some, this can be a very frustrating process. It is a whole new experience when the horse begins to trust the individual and is willing work that person. Lessons are learned on patience and asking for help with things beyond control. The Cirque Lodge Studio provides indoor and outdoor venues for the equine experience. This gives each resident a chance to work with the horses no matter the time of year they attend the facility.
Experiential Challenges with a Ropes Course
Different challenges are provided Cirque Lodge residents with the ropes course. The Cirque Lodge ropes course is located indoors at the Studio addiction center and consists of a number of different climbing challenges and recovery exercises. Some of these challenges can greatly help individuals in addressing their fears and accomplishing tasks they thought impossible. Others are intended to get the cognitive processes working. The experiential staff is trained and experienced in providing residents with safe and memorable ropes course activities.
Ropes course activities consist of both high and low elements.

The different events provide unique lessons and challenges. Some are intended to be individual and others are team types of challenges. Simple things like logs, boards, cinderblocks and ropes can provide those in alcohol or drug rehab with imperative lessons for their lives. At the beginning and end of each exercise are a sit down and a chance to discuss the challenge, as well as what was learned through the exercise.
Experiential Program on the Mountain
The experiential program also takes Cirque Lodge residents out onto the mountain. People have come to these mountains for centuries in a search for spiritual enlightenment. Those in drug rehab and
addiction treatment can use their time on the mountain to experience the same. Mountain based activities come in many forms. Residents go hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, river rafting, fishing, and even snow shoeing in the winter. The Cirque Lodge helicopter is also used to take clients into the mountains for unique experiences in remote locations.
These activities are used in creating a spiritual awakening of sorts for the alcoholic/addict. Concepts from the 12-step program and a chance to meditate can be helpful for the struggling individual. Their racing mind is given a chance to relax and reflect. A vital spiritual experience can be a foundation for an internal change. At the Cirque, mountain venues are used to help individuals come to terms spiritually and make connections to a power greater than their own. This can provide a life changing impact for some and hopefully a foundation for continuing the recovery process for all residents of our
addiction center.
