The alcoholic/addict can get comfortable in their addictive ways and mindsets. Some experiential activities are used to get individuals out of their comfort zone. These activities challenge their ways of thinking and require them to use cognitions in a completely different way. Accomplishing tasks and challenges can be a means to overcoming personal fears and making progress. At the end of each and every activity, residents sit down with the experiential therapy team and discuss the activity. Each activity has lessons to be learned for the recovery process.
