A Day in Drug Rehab
There are always questions to be answered when it comes to alcohol or drug rehab. Usually the admissions office at a drug rehab is quite busy in answering questions of those in need of addiction treatment. Drug rehab programs vary. They are similar in some respects, but can have differences from facility-to-facility. This is a look into a treatment day at a typical residential alcohol and drug rehab program. Within a 30-day or longer treatment stay, the aspects of a typical day can vary. This is to provide some answers to what a day in drug rehab can be like.Morning: Most drug rehabs have an expected time to be up and ready for the day. The morning brings with it a hearty breakfast made up of foods to provide energy for the days activities. Following breakfast, a meeting is held to discuss the events and plans for the day. In the larger capacity facilities this 'community' meeting helps to clear up any confusion regarding the plans and programs of the day. In a smaller residential facility the focus of this meeting is to help the individuals with their plans for the treatment day. Treatment and therapy can be a number of things in drug rehab. Following the morning meeting, a number of things can follow on any given day. The time allotted for morning treatment can involve groups, a lecture, or even an activity. Today, at this particular treatment center, half of the residents are going out for a morning experiential activity; mountain biking along a river. Other individuals will be spending time working with a personal trainer. During this morning period, time is allotted the residents in drug rehab for personal therapy. One-on-one therapy time is reserved to help the addict deal with the personal issues in their life that trigger addiction. The time is spent in a private session with therapist or counselor discussing many of the deeply rooted issues that can fuel the addiction fire. Afternoon: Lunch is served in the afternoon. The meals in drug rehab offer an emphasis on rebuilding the body with proper nutrition. Drug addiction can take a lot out of a person physically. Once off of drugs, proper nutrition and exercise can make a difference in rebuilding the body healthily and physically. Lunch is followed by different elements of treatment. Today, it is a group meeting in a separate setting for both male and female residents. Afternoon treatment can also include personal therapy for some residents, as well as an activity, or lecture. To keep the elements of addiction treatment fresh, the drug rehab program changes the aspects of treatment and the topics discussed and covered. In the mid afternoon at this particular treatment center, free time is granted to the residents. This time can be spent doing a number of things. A yoga class is provided in this time, as well as an exercise facility for those who would like to work out. This time is also spent playing games, studying, or calling a loved one in the time provided for phone calls. After working through difficult things in therapy, a little free time can be quite helpful and therapeutic. Evening: Dinner begins the evening activities. In the evening, treatment again can have a number of varying activities, lectures and treatment types. This evening is a combined lecture on the importance of developing a continued recovery plan for life after rehab. During this time, once again, personal therapy sessions are scheduled for individuals to work one-on-one with a treatment counselor or therapist. The evening is also a time set aside for attendance to 12-step meetings. Residents who are in an extended stay are given a chance to go off of campus with an addiction sponsor and attend 12-step meetings; that best suit their addiction need. During this time, the drug addict can learn from the example of the addiction sponsor in the success of sober living. The evening concludes with one final short meeting. This meeting is designed to provide a meditation and relaxing element. The purpose of this is to help the drug addict get to sleep. Coming off of drugs can produce unwanted anxiety and sleeplessness. The final closing meeting can help the mind relax and welcome the idea of a good nights rest. An addict who sleeps in drug rehab is more likely to stay and benefit from the program. There are a lot of drug rehab programs out there, and not all provide treatment scheduled out like this. This treatment day is an excerpt of treatment provided at Cirque Lodge.
