Drug Rehab, the Addict's Decision

When They Decide to get Help for Themselves

Struggling with Addiction There is a stigma that is built up by alcohol and drug addiction. This stigma develops into a mindset, a defense if you will, to protect the practices of addiction. Because of this stigma, it oftentimes becomes the responsibility of loved ones and friends to set the addict straight; and get them the help of drug rehab treatment. There are times and situations that can tear down this stigma. It can take endless pleas from loved ones, a loss of job, a tragic occurrence, or even hitting rock bottom for the addict to see the need for treatment.

For the most part, in the mind of the addict, the addiction to drugs or alcohol is not always viewed as a problem. They feel that if they wanted to, they could quit. Sadly this is rarely the case. The life of an alcoholic or drug addict becomes more and more unmanageable as the need to feed the addictive craving grows. For the addict, it can take a sobering experience, something happening within their lives before the decision for drug rehab is made.

The lifestyle and the process of feeding addictive cravings can grow tiresome for some addicts. The lifestyle of constantly seeking and using can get old. Perhaps they are tired of problems in the home that addiction is causing. Perhaps they are tired of the legal issues that their habits have caused. Some addicts see their lives becoming unmanageable, and long for a change.

For some it takes far more difficult turns and circumstances before drug rehab is sought. Hitting bottom can be a blessing in disguise. It can be the sobering event within the addict's life that leads to treatment for their problem. Hitting rock bottom can be a sobering event. The addict can find themselves in a situation they are not comfortable with. This can be at the point of losing everything, or a tragic event. Regardless, it can be sobering to the point that the addict makes the decision for themselves.

Admittance is the first step of the recovery process. When an addict admits into drug rehab, it is the first step in a long process of recovering from addiction problems. Treatment from rehab should never be viewed as some sort of punishment. It is treatment for what is a life threatening health problem.
