Drug Rehab, Treatment from Those in Recovery

Getting help from individuals who have found a way out of the addiction struggles.

Treatment and Therapy From Those in Recovery The setting is a support type of group meeting in a drug rehab program. One of the counselors conducting the meeting shares his own experience. He tells of a time when he was struggling with drugs and alcohol. Some of the members of the group are touched by his story of finding answers for his addiction. This counselor is in successful recovery for his own addiction problems. It isn't just lip service.

Many drug rehab facilities look to employ those in successful recovery. They can provide empathy and personal experience to others who are struggling. This also gives those in recovery a chance to assist others who too may have had similar experiences. For some addicts it can be a struggle to be counseled by someone who hasn't been in the same situations. Treatment from those in successful recovery can provide the right type of empathy that is so desperately needed.

For the counselor in recovery, it is simply fulfilling the final step of the 12-step program. The 12th step reads something along these lines: "Having had a spiritual awakening as a result of these Steps, we tried to carry this message to others who experience drug and alcohol addiction and to practice these principles in all our affairs." Working within a drug rehab program can help those in recovery to continue to carry this message to others who are struggling.

Being a counselor in a treatment program can help those in recovery to reaffirm their own sobriety. Recovery from drug and alcohol addiction is a drawn out process. It takes time and a whole lot of personal effort. The daily affirmation of helping other addicts can strengthen an individual's recovery experience.

Support is a valuable tool to those overcoming their addictions. The right support can be invaluable in itself. When in drug rehab, an individual in successful recovery can be that means of support. It tells the addict "I know what you're going through", or "I've been there too." This positive role can be one of the many changing experiences that effective drug rehab can offer. This information was provided by Cirque Lodge in Sundance Utah. It is a continuing effort to better inform the public on alcohol and drug addiction treatment programs.
