Abuse and Addiction of Painkillers
Primarily, painkillers are used as a short term solution for the pain problem.

The more exposure the central nervous system has to the drug, the more likely one can develop a habit or addiction to them. The majority of painkillers have addictive ingredients in them. They derive this ingredient from opiates or synthetic opioids. The central nervous system can develop a tolerance to these drugs. The individual feels they need more of the painkiller. This is abuse, and abuse can shortly get out of hand. At this point, the individual is not using the drug to suppress pain; it is to answer the impulses of a growing addiction. This is an addiction that requires drug rehab treatment to bring an end to.
When a person abuses painkillers, they run a greater risk of overdosing on medications. The recent increase of prescription addiction has shown a subsequent increase in overdose cases throughout the country. The demographic of prescription addicts is also greatly different. The majority are people who don't seek to use addictive substances. Rather, they are individuals who have found addiction by using medications they thought were safe. Over time, an addiction has been developed, and the problem is greatly compounded.
Beginning Drug Rehab for Painkiller Addiction
When a resident enters drug rehab treatment at Cirque Lodge, usually they require detoxification first. The detox process rids the body of the addictive toxins, and stabilizes the individual for withdrawal problems. Cirque Lodge is not a detox facility. We are partnered with a professional detoxification center in Salt Lake City. Transportation from this facility is provided by Cirque Lodge in one of our private vehicles. When the detoxification process is completed, the individual is immediately enrolled into our drug rehab program for their painkiller addiction.
The program begins with an assessment process. This is a rigorous process that helps us as a treatment staff best determine the course of action. It involves multi-phased inventory, admissions and an assessment from our resident psychiatrist. The results of this process are developed into a personalized addiction treatment plan for the client. Each plan is different. Residents in need of drug rehab treatment for painkillers benefit from a personalized plan for their addiction problem.
A Balanced Drug Rehab Treatment
Our
drug rehab individual treatment center meets the specific needs of the resident. Our drug rehab program consists of a number of elements that all are based in personalized treatment. These elements provide an effective balance for working the recovery process. A personalized approach means a lot of one-on-one time with therapists and counselors. Balanced into this are group programs, a family program, and daily experiential activities.
Cirque Lodge is very much a 12-step facility. Treatment and philosophy are based on the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. While in a 30-day stay for painkiller addiction, residents can have an involvement in this program and establish the first few steps of the recovery process. Extended stays are also available. During this time, clients benefit from drug rehab treatment that continues onto additional steps of the 12-step program.

The advantage to 12-step recovery is the support networks available after drug rehab is completed. Building this support from others who have had painkiller issues can greatly ease some of the burdens of the recovery process.
The most unique element to the Cirque Lodge program comes from experiential learning activities. The experiential program is an integral part of our balance to therapy and drug rehab treatment. Activities include: mountain hikes, a ropes course, working with horses, flights in a private helicopter, snow shoeing, and even pottery lessons in our art room. These activities provide much more than enjoyment. They teach coping skills for overcoming impulses to use painkillers. They provide a therapeutic experience for healing. Most importantly, they provide a place for spiritual reconnection. These activities can provide the life changing experience needed to overcome the struggles of dealing with painkiller addiction.
