Treating Grief and Addiction

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

Addressing Grief in Drug RehabFor some, addiction can be a result of suffering from grief and trauma. The soothing effects of alcohol and drugs can be a desired replacement to the feelings of remorse, guilt, grief, and sorrow. Before you know it, the individual is dependent on the addictive things just to get through life. Meanwhile, the feelings of grief are not treated by this. They are just suppressed, and in some cases compounded by the development of chemical dependency.

Personalized treatment in drug rehab can provide the answer. Therapy is geared to address the feelings of this grief or trauma, and how it relates to addiction. Perhaps the individual has lost a loved one. This separation caused by death can be very disheartening and a struggle. Individuals can be grieving due to trauma, caused by physical, emotional, or sexual abuse. Regardless of what it is, therapy based in treating elements of grief can be integral. The chance to talk about these things can be very therapeutic. A supportive environment can be exactly what is needed for those who are grieving.

A person must learn to manage their addictive impulse. In time, the impulse lessens and management becomes a simpler process. Grief is also something that requires management. In drug rehab, one learns constructive ways to manage their addictive impulses. Similarly, those who are grieving can use constructive outlets as a coping strategy against the difficult thoughts and feelings that coincide with grief. For those who have found chemical dependency as a result of grieving, drug rehab at Cirque Lodge can provide proper measures of therapy and caring. Many of our dedicated staff have come from similar experiences. They are waiting to help and support you.

Using Dual Diagnosis in Drug Rehab

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Dual Diagnosis In Drug RehabCo-occurring problems can be at the heart of many addiction cases. Drugs and alcohol are being used to self medicate away the problems of a psychiatric disorder. In other cases, an individual is even unaware that such a disorder exists. They can’t explain why they have these feelings, so they turn to addictive substances to suppress these unwanted feelings. These are only two examples of what has become a common problem treated in drug rehab; co-occurring psychiatric issues.

Drug rehabs have had to adapt to this occurrence by implementing dual diagnostic treatment into their clinical programs. Dual diagnosis supplies treatment for both co-occurring addiction problems. This is advantageous to those who were even unaware of their mood disorder. Therapy is personalized and geared to treat both aspects of the co-occurring problem. When you treat both, you supply healing for both. When the disorder is more properly dealt with, there can be fewer complications in treating the addiction. Likewise, as an individual learns to cope with addiction, they can come to terms with the problems presented by depression or anxiety. Dual diagnosis in drug rehab can be invaluable to those who are struggling with both addiction and mood disorders.

Finding Recovery With Drug Rehab at Cirque Lodge

There are advantages to the 12-step approach to recovery. At Cirque Lodge, we strive to provide our clients with a solid foundation of the initial steps of the 12-step process. Drug Rehab isn’t nearly a long enough period to achieve a full recovery. A foundation of the 12-steps assists in building towards a successful recovery with the help of contiued outpatient programs.

One of the vital steps of this process is to find some sort of connection with a power greater than ones own. At Cirque Lodge, one of our focuses is to provide vital spiritual experiences. These experiences can provide this connection with a higher power. The originators of the 12-step program, Alcoholics Anonymous, tells the story of a discussion of vital spiritual experiences. A doctor described these experiences to his patient as an emotional displacement or rearrangement. The doctor said that such an experience resulted in casting aside the driving forces that led to alcoholism. At Cirque Lodge, we look to provide these vital spiritual experiences to our clients. Through which a solid connection is made with one’s higher power.

The 12-step program alo provides a continued support network for recovery. Continuing the steps after rehab can be integral elements of a successful recovery. After drug rehab is completed, support groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous becomes the means of continuing the steps of the 12-step process. Such support is needed from time to time to stay focused and connected to a higher power. The 12-steps begin with alcohol or drug rehab at Cirque Lodge. Drug Rehab, Continuing Care for the Future

Enjoying RecoveryRecovery from alcohol or drug addiction is a process. For most individuals it takes time, and a great deal of commitment. When in the living space of a drug rehab it is easy to make the decision to stay sober. After rehab, however, the decision is more challenging. The individual can be faced with addictive influences that make staying sober more difficult. There are methods to combat this challenge. For many individuals the resources of an addiction sponsor and 12-step support groups can be valuable.

At Cirque Lodge, action is taken before the client leaves the drug rehab facility. Upon completion of alcohol or drug treatment, a client is prescribed a continuing care plan. This plan can be a great benefit to stay strong during the initial months of recovery. The Continuing Care Plan helps those in recovery to find the best forms of continued outpatient treatment. This can be the right addiction sponsors, and support groups. It can also even mean an effective sober living environment for awhile. The purpose of continuing care is to strengthen the individual towards a successful recovery. It prepares them for when they are challenged by those influences of addiction. This can take some time. After all, like I said earlier, recovery from alcohol and drug addiction is a process. It does take time and a considerable amount of personal effort.

Building Support in Drug Rehab

Support Group

An advantage to entering a drug rehab program is the support that is received. Addiction to alcohol and drugs can be very isolating. It can be even more difficult to overcome without support from those who can help. Drug and alcohol treatment provides an ample arm of support for those who are suffering from addiction. Support can be a crutch in the difficult times when it seems just too hard to continue. Addiction doesn’t end overnight. A supportive environment can make a difference for those who struggle.

After completion of rehab, support continues on. 12-step meetings and support groups assume this roll after addiction treatment is finished. An addiction sponsor is also appointed to provide more of a personal one-on-one support. Support is available for those in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. They don’t have to be alone in the fight to get their life back from the perils of drugs and alcohol.

Drug Rehab and an Equine Experience

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

Drug Rehab and an Equine ExperienceThe Cirque Lodge program provides a unique balance of clinical and experiential therapies. One of the unique approaches to treating addiction is the equine experience. Individuals in alcohol and drug rehab have a chance to interact with horses. Horses are amazingly intelligent animals and provide a direct feedback in working with them. The individual in rehab can learn valuable lessons in developing communication, honesty and trust.

The process of the equine experience provides a challenge for the addict/alcoholic. At first, this process can be frustrating. Through the assistance of the experiential staff, and proper communication, the individual can learn the importance of developing and establishing trust with the animal. Establishing trust with the horse can provide a bond between the individual and the animal. The trusting horse is more submissive and willing to follow commands. The individual learns the importance of asking for help, when it comes to life’s problems. This is something that an addict/ alcoholic can struggle with, asking for help. Cirque Lodge’s equine experience is just one of the effective programs used to bring an end to drug and alcohol addiction.

For some individuals these factors can be very personal in nature.
