Friday, August 29th, 2008

Struggling with Addiction and Emotional DisordersAlcohol and drug addiction can be a result of many things. These things can be personal, emotional and psychological complications. The affects of drugs on the central nervous system suppress the pains that are caused by these complications. For a number of individual the chief problem is psychological. It is the underlying problem of an existing psychiatric condition or disorder. Common emotional disorders are depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, hypomanic and manic depression. These can be a result of existing medical conditions as well. Studies have shown that individuals with such disorders are more likely to develop an addiction.

Drug rehabs have come a long way in treatment over the years. Treating psychiatric disorders is one way they have changed. Many drug rehabs are dual diagnosis facilities, and focus on treating the disorder in addition to the addiction. For many individuals the addiction is merely covering up the real existing problem of the disorder. Treatment for the disorder can yield more successful results in recovery for the addiction.

Support in Drug Treatment

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

Treatment for drug addiction takes on many forms. One form that remains a constant in most alcohol and drug rehab programs is that of support. Most drug rehab facilities focus on providing support for those in recovery. Support in drug treatment also takes on many forms, but the focus is to help the addict realize they are never alone with their addiction problems. The most common form is that of a support group. In rehab, the addict can receive empathy and support from a fellowship of those also in recovery.

At Cirque Lodge, support is found throughout the entire program. From a process group, to an activity out on the mountain, clients of the Cirque program are surrounded by a supportive environment willing to help. After drug treatment is completed, support can be a necessary crutch. There are many anonymous support programs available to continue in building support. The individual in recovery is prepared by support groups in rehab. Such support can ease the troubles of impulses caused by the addiction, and can accomplish another day of sobriety. The days are made easier knowing that there is always someone that can help you.

..Because that which we can not do alone, we can accomplish together.

Privacy in Alcohol and Drug Rehab

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

One of the nice things about coming to the mountains for alcohol and drug rehab is the privacy. Cirque Lodge is located on a private drive nestled discreetly in the mountains. This level of privacy is available for everyone. We treat every client with the respect and the privacy that they require. It provides our clients a great deal of comfort to know that their addiction treatment experience is kept in privacy and confidence.

Addiction Treatment and Horses

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Equine Activity in Addiction TreatmentYou wouldn’t think that horses have any place in addiction treatment. How could working with animals get an individual off of alcohol or drug addiction? Cirque Lodge makes these therapeutic experiences a reality with their equine program. The clients of Cirque Lodge’s alcohol or drug rehab have an opportunity to develop skills by working with horses.

Horses are amazingly intelligent creatures that give direct feedback through actions. The drug addict or alcoholic can learn a lot about themselves by how they interact with the horse. This can be a sobering lesson in communication, honesty and trust. The client must have the trust of the horse before this big powerful animal becomes submissive. Gaining this trust can be a process and teach many lessons along the way.

One the important lessons, asking for help. Most people are quite new to horses and getting the horse to do basic things can be a chore. However, members of the experiential staff are available to help them, but only if they ask appropriately. This reflects the addict’s need to ask for help in other areas of their life, specifically with the problems of drugs and alcohol. Asking for help is an important aspect of the recovery process. Working with horses is just a fun and alternative way to assist the addict in seeing the need to ask.

The horses are an integral part of the Cirque Lodge program. Cirque Lodge uses many experiential activities as a part of their effective recovery program. It makes rehab more of a life changing and fun experience altogether.

Anti-Abuse Pills and Addressing Prescription Addiction

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Treating Prescription Drug AddictPharmaceutical companies are striving to address the issue of prescription drug abuse and addiction. These companies have turned to technologies to invent an anti-abuse pill. The pill itself poses challenges to those who do not take the pill as orally recommended. Addicts of prescription drugs will often crush the pills. They then snort them or mix them with water and inject them. This increases the speed of the high to almost instant.

The anti-abuse pill congeals when crushed, and does not at all mix with water. This makes it difficult to inject and virtually impossible to snort. I am sure that addicts will one day figure a way around this. It seems they always do. However it is nice to see the pharmacy labs making strides to address the growing prescription drug problem. Prescription drug abuse is growing rampant across the country and in all age groups. It is sad to see that these medications that are made to help us can be such a detriment.

For individuals who struggle with prescription drug abuse, drug rehab can provide answers. A personalized program, like the one at Cirque Lodge, can help the addict determine the why and how of addiction. Many times it is the underlying things that are the reasons behind the uncontrolled drug use. Even though, pharmaceutical companies are researching ways to change the pills, alcohol and drug rehab treatment is still readily available to specifically treat the addiction.

Drug Rehab before It’s too late

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Struggling With AddictionWe all know someone with addiction problems. It can be hard for us to help them into drug rehab. This is mainly because we don’t know how. When we talk to our loved ones about their addiction problems they can become confrontational. It is difficult and hard. However, the truth is we need to act. Many times it is up to us, the loved ones, to get the addict or alcoholic the treatment they stand in need of. You never know if that next bout with substance abuse will be the last.

Fortunately, there are individuals that can help us with our addicted loved ones. An interventionist can help in dealing with our addict loved one in ways we do not. An intervention can help the addict see the light and the need for treatment. If and when the addict agrees to treatment, an interventionist can help in finding the right treatment center. There are also individuals that work with our loved ones through detox to make sure they stay safe during withdrawal. When our loved one enters a drug rehab, it is nice to know that the caring staff of the treatment center will be their for the addiction problem.

It is never too early for drug rehab. Some people think they should wait until the addict hits rock bottom. The risk is that rock bottom could be death. When drug and alcohol problems arise one should seek treatment for their loved ones before it grows too late. A stay in rehab can be a life saving experience. Many times it takes a caring loved one to make this experience happen.

Could Your Drinking Be an Alcohol Problem?

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

Drinking alcohol is an activity that many of us enjoy. Alcohol can help us to relax, and even improve our sensibility in social situations. There is a fine line that separates acceptable drinking from an alcohol problem. The line grows even thinner when it comes to an alcohol problem and addiction. The majority of individuals who regularly drink aren’t destined to be alcoholics. However, the right situations and occurrences in life can make alcoholism more of a probability.

A way to personally assess is to look at the amounts of consumption. How often are you drinking? How much are you drinking? Does each day revolve around looking forward to the time you can drink? When during the day do you start drinking? Is it a casual thing, or what gets you through the day? It is also important to look at what you are drinking. Are you drinking a few beers, or harder liquors? Two drinks is the acceptable standard when drinking alcohol. Are you exceeding this? How often? Has drinking resulted in legal troubles? If the answer for many of these questions is “yes” you are most likely dealing with an alcohol problem.

An alcohol problem is different than alcoholism. Cutting back in your drinking can provide you with an assessment of the alcohol situation. If you can’t cut back, because your cravings are too much, or because you are overwhelmed with anxiety, chances are you are dealing with an addiction to alcohol. If the alcohol problem is one you can not stop, treatment may be the only way out. An alcohol rehab, like Cirque Lodge, can provide you with a solution for your alcohol problem.
