Beginning the 12-steps in Alcohol and Drug Rehab

Friday, January 16th, 2009

12-step Meeting Closes with Serenity PrayerFor most, alcohol and drug rehab is the start to beginning the 12-steps toward recovery. The 12-step program is still the primarily used treatment approach to alcohol and drug addiction. Overcoming addiction is a process. Even with treatment, the impulses to use and to drink remain. The 12-steps provide a guideline for continuing sobriety. Involvement in the many anonymous recovery programs also provides all the needed assistance to stay sober. Cirque Lodge is founded on the 12-step program. A stay in drug rehab isn’t a long enough time in recovery for most. We strive to help our alcohol and drug rehab clients to have a solid foundation of the initial steps towards recovery.

When residents leave any addiction treatment program, they are once again exposed to many of the temptations they previously had succumbed to. 12-step meetings and support groups take on the role of assisting continued sobriety. Prior to leaving drug rehab at the Cirque Lodge, each client is given a number of options when it comes to continuing the 12-step process. These options are constructed into a continuing care plan for recovering success. Clients also get accustomed to the atmosphere 12-step meetings and working with addiction sponsors while still in treatment. They are educated and aware of the need and importance for continuing to work with such programs.

Throughout working the 12-steps of recovery, one needs to maintain that solid connection to a higher power. This is one of the steps covered in drug rehab at Cirque Lodge. One must establish this connection and be willing to turn over their addiction problems to that power. At the Cirque Lodge, we strive to provide vital spiritual experiences. Such experiences can create a solid connection to that power greater than our own. In the difficult times, when things just seem to be working against, that connection can be the strength to staying sober.

Addressing the Needs of the Client in Drug Rehab

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

The Cirque Lodge and Studio Drug Rehab FacilitiesIndividuals who require drug rehab are as unique and different as the various substances they have been using. People come from different backgrounds and upbringings. They have different personalities, as well as very different battles with addiction. For each individual, the drug rehab process may not work the same way. Some individual addicts might require a greater level of personal care, while others may not so much. At Cirque Lodge, our focus is each individual. We strive to attend to the personal needs of each client.

The treatment experience at our facility is not ‘cookie cutter’ per se. Each client has a program created that meets their needs and requirements from a drug rehab facility. Our clinical staff is greatly experienced in the field of treating addiction. They work nonstop to meet the personal needs of each client. Clients are also not ‘cookie cutter’. Some require more personal therapy; others may benefit more from 12-step groups like AA, NA or CA. We continually are working to discover the best plan of action for each drug rehab client.

At Cirque Lodge, this is done with an expansive and continually improving program. Plenty of personal therapy is provided for each client. Some require more than others. Complimenting the personal touch is an array of group, 12-step, and family elements. The balance to this rigorous therapy process is our experiential program. It consists of a number of indoor and outdoor (nature based) activities that make drug rehab fun, as well as enhance the recovery process. At Cirque Lodge, we believe we have the treatment program for anyone. This is due to our attention to meeting each client’s personal needs and our array of recovery programs.

Drug Rehab with an Art Room

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

Working with Clay in Drug RehabExperiential activities are used as a part of Cirque’s drug rehab program. These activities provide a number of venues for developing recovery skills and addiction coping strategies. One such venue is the art room at our Studio facility. In the art room, drug rehab clients work on projects with a master level artist. The art room is equipped with pottery wheels, where individuals can work with clay. It can help to recover some of the motor skills that are affected by alcohol and drug abuse. We even have our own kiln to fire and glaze the pottery.

What is seen by working with clay is a progress for recovery. Pottery requires a great deal of attention and detail. This can help the addicted mind to focus on something else, other than using. When a client begins pottery, they are basically a novice. A simple ashtray is what is created. As they go through the process of the drug rehab program, you can see the improvement in their pottery as well. The ashtray evolves into a beautiful and colorful pitcher, pot, or bowl. This is a keepsake that can remind them of the progress they made to overcome their fight with alcohol or drug addiction. Our art room is just one of the many unique venues we provide our drug rehab clients. Such venues greatly enhance the personal recovery experience.

Educating the Family on Addiction

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

The Family Program at the Studio FacilityEducating the family on the nature of addiction is needed for the recovery process. When a loved one has an alcohol or drug addiction, it can be a problem for the entire family. The addict alone isn’t the only one suffering. It can also greatly strain the relationships of those who are a part of that individual’s life. A part of addiction treatment is to help the family overcome some of their issues as well. In this way, they can be a needed support for their loved one. At Cirque Lodge, the family is a part of our drug rehab program.

Many misunderstandings can be had when it comes to addiction. These misunderstandings can lead to contention in the family unit. A part of the Cirque Lodge family program is to educate the family. Lectures are provided to help the family better understand the nature of addiction, as well as what their loved one is going through on a psychological, emotional, and spiritual level. Also discussed are the concepts of the disease of addiction. The hope is to clear up some of these misunderstandings and teach the family on what they can do to help.

The family also plays an integral role in the recovery process. Overcoming addiction takes some time and effort. It can be a little easier if there is the right support along the way. A prepared family can be a needed crutch for the addict in times of struggle. Part of what is covered in the Cirque Lodge family program is the need for continued care. When the family is a part of 12-step meetings and assisting in the recovery process, it can be influential in the success of the sobriety. For some, the family part of our drug rehab program is very tough at first, but ultimately has tremendous healing results.

A Winter Drug Rehab Activity

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

Drug Rehab Clients out Snow ShoeingSnow shoeing is one of the winter activities we use in our experiential program. Experiential activities are an integral part of the alcohol and drug rehab program offered here at Cirque Lodge. In recent weeks, the mountains surrounding Cirque Lodge have received ample amounts of snowfall. Our experiential counselors take out select drug rehab clients to embark on a snow shoeing activity. This time is used to talk and discuss. It gives the addict/alcoholic a chance to get away from it all and to just enjoy something different for a change.

The purpose of many experiential activities is to provide what the Big Book describes as ‘vital spiritual experiences’. Such experiences can create an internal shift and a change of convictions. This change can turn the individual away from drinking and using and direct them in a positive light towards recovery. A snow shoeing activity can be just the activity for a vital spiritual experience, and help the recovering drug rehab client connect with their higher power.

Drug Rehab, Addressing Prescription Drug Addiction

Monday, January 5th, 2009

Drug Rehab Program for PrescriptionsThere is a growing problem when it comes to drug abuse these days. However, people are not going to their drug dealers to obtain these drugs, they are turning to their medicine cabinets. Prescription drugs that contain opiates and synthetic opioids are becoming the growing abuse problem. These prescription drugs are derivatives of morphine and are used mainly in pain management. They have brand names like Vicodin, Percocet, Percodan, and OxyContin. They contain the ingredient hydrocodone or oxycodone. These drugs are miracles when taken appropriately. They are dangerous when abused. Abusing prescription drugs ultimately can result in addiction. Cases of abuse are on an alarming rise. Similarly, the rise in overdose deaths from prescription drugs is also steadily growing across the United States.

Cirque Lodge treats individuals who suffer from the disease of addiction. For those in need of drug rehab for prescription pills, Cirque Lodge provides a caring environment and a unique addiction treatment program. The purpose is to help them develop the skills needed to overcome their disease, have an early recovery, and return to a productive way of life.
