Help and Healing for Family Members

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

Alcohol and Drug Addiction, a Family StruggleThe family suffers when one of them is struggling with alcohol or drugs. The erratic behavior of addiction can really impact those that surround the individual, and can strain relationships. The addict/alcoholic can act in ways, while under the influence, that can be hurtful and destructive to the family. It’s not something they really can control. Part of drug rehab is to help individuals come terms with this, but what about the family members who are also suffering? At Cirque Lodge, we focus on the family with specific treatment and therapy. A family program is a part of the experience here, and individuals can have a chance to heal and grow with family elements.

The family program does a lot to help the family members who are affected by the behavior of their loved one. It is a caring treatment program where the family can get the struggles out and to begin healing. Lectures and workshops are offered to educate family on the nature of their loved ones problem. They discover ways to help and support their loved one through the recovery process. Special family sessions of therapy are also provided to help the family communicate. This can clear up many of the problems that addiction has presented in their lives. Alcohol and drug rehab at Cirque Lodge can be a life changing experience for those struggling with alcohol or drug addiction. Our family program can provide a similar experience for their loved ones.

Drug Rehab and Horses

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

Working with a Horse in Drug RehabAt Cirque Lodge, we use horses to help with treatment. Individuals in alcohol rehab and drug rehab can work with horses during their stay. Horses provide a direct and honest feedback. They are acutely aware of everything that is going on around them. Individuals coming down from alcoholism and drug addiction most times are the exact opposite. Working with the horses can be eye opening and sobering to people trying to get their lives back from drugs and drink. This activity teaches a number of things, but most importantly people find exactly what they need from the exercise for their own lives.

The exercise with the horses can be frustrating at first. Horses are an animal of flight. When the addict is presented to the horse, the initial meeting can be a process. Many of the behaviors that are developed through addiction are challenged by the natural fleeing instincts of the horse. The individual can not just impose their will on the horse. They must work with the horse to gain its trust. The staff that works with our equine experience is there every step of the way. They can help the residents of drug rehab to progress through the exercise.

Once the individual and the horse have established trust for each other, a great connection is made. At the beginning of the exercise, the horse wanted nothing to do with the person. When the connection is made, the horse is willing to submit to commands and be subject to anything that it is directed to do. It is amazing what horses can do for those in drug rehab. It is therapeutic and provides healing in ways that traditional methods, at times, may not be able to.

One-on-one Therapy SessionPeople in addiction treatment for alcoholism or drugs can be struggling from different things. While suffering from the common malady of chemical dependency, people can have very distinct problems they are dealing with. Some individuals can have a lot on their plate in addition to alcoholism and drug addiction. Some are suffering from psychiatric disorders, which is very common with addiction. Others can have problems with traumatic issues that have plagued them for years. Alcohol and drug rehab at Cirque Lodge consists of a number of intensive therapies that meet the varying needs of our residents.

Addiction treatment is personalized for each client. This includes ample one-on-one therapy time with a personal licensed counselor. A lot of times, it is the underlying things, trauma, life problems, and medical conditions that influenced and led to abusing alcohol and drugs. Therapy sessions in drug rehab are a venue for dealing with these problems. They are done in a light where individuals can also come to terms with their problems with addiction. Group therapies are also used to help the individual develop support and to receive help from others. Coping strategies are developed to help that individual on their own level. Personalized addiction treatment allows our clinical staff to address the needs of each individual. It is just one of the ways we strive to provide the very best care in a drug rehab setting.

Beginning the 12-steps in Rehab

Friday, April 10th, 2009

Making Connections to a Higher PowerAt Cirque Lodge, residents begin the recovery process with a personalized alcohol and drug rehab program. As a 12-step facility, our residents receive treatment that has a foundation on that philosophy. People are in addiction treatment for just a short time. This isn’t time long enough for really working through the 12-step process. At Cirque Lodge, we focus on a solid foundation of the initial work of the 12-steps. We use a caring drug rehab program and the healing of nature to assist with this.

The beginning steps focus on making connections to one’s higher power. At Cirque Lodge, we offer a number of venues and programs to help our clients make such connections. A balance of outdoor activities utilizes nature as a tool for establishing such a connection. As a part of these activities residents are allowed some alone time where they can focus and meditate. On the mountain, surrounded by the wonders of the earth, one can find the connection to a power greater than their own.

The 12-steps are spiritually based. People suffering from alcohol and drug addiction usually are spiritually at a low point. Using nature and similar activities can help to provide spiritual experiences that have a profound impact on the recovery of that individual. After drug rehab is completed, the safety and control of the facility is removed, and people once again must face impulses of addiction on their own. The connection to a higher power can be the means to a stronger resolve for long term sobriety.

Drug Rehab Lecture on AddictionPeople who are abusing drugs can be completely unaware of what they are doing. Their purpose is just to maintain the addiction by obtaining the drugs and using. Part of drug rehab is to provide an education on the nature and behaviors of addiction. At Cirque Lodge, we provide a number of lectures and workshops for our residents. They offer a better understanding on the conditions and problems of addiction, as well as how they affect the central nervous system. Lectures are also provided on the recovery process and the need for continuing 12-step work after drug rehab.

The Cirque Lodge works with a number of professionals in the treatment industry. These individuals frequently visit and provide many different lectures and workshops on the concepts of alcoholism and drug addiction. The residents in drug rehab have a greater knowledge and understanding of how addiction affects them. During Family Week at our facility, lectures are provided to instruct family members of the concepts of addiction, as well as workshops on the family’s imperative role in the recovery process. Treatment isn’t always therapy. At Cirque Lodge we use a number of things. Lectures and workshops can help clear up some of the misconceptions on the nature of alcoholism and drug addiction.

Treatment for Prescription Medications

Monday, April 6th, 2009

Growing Problem of Prescirpiton Drug AddictionThe new problem of drug addiction we face comes from our very own medicine cabinets. Prescription drugs and pain medications are growing to be a greater problem in many communities than illicit street drugs. Each day, there are stories of pharmacies across the country being robbed for pills containing oxycodone, benzodiazepines, and hydrocodone. When such perpetrators are caught, most of the time it was to feed their own addictive cravings. Treatment programs and drug rehab facilities are also seeing a drastic increase in individuals struggling with prescription medications.

At the Cirque Lodge, we have seen this increase as well. A growing number of our residents are individuals who have struggled with addictive prescription medications. These individuals are treated with a personalized drug rehab program and cared for on an individualized basis. A number of effective therapies and activities are used to help the individual overcome the problem of prescription drugs. Recovery programs and 12-step efforts are implemented to provide support when drug rehab is completed. We may not always be able to prevent someone from getting addicted to prescription drugs. However, there is treatment available to help individuals overcome their problems of addiction to the pills.

Preparing a Continuing Care Plan

Work with Clients on Continuing Care PlanOvercoming alcohol and drug addiction is a process. While in drug rehab at Cirque Lodge, the client is preparing for the time they leave treatment and must work at their recovery outside a safe environment. However, they are not alone through any of this. While in rehab, the client works with or aftercare staff in preparing a continuing care plan. There are many recovery elements that are available after someone leaves an addiction program. There are sober living houses, aftercare programs, personal addiction therapy practices, and most importantly 12-step meetings. Aftercare and primary counselors work with each resident and make recommendations on a continuing care plan.

Like addiction treatment at Cirque Lodge, the continuing care plan is personalized to meet the needs of the individual. Some may require more out of their continuing efforts than others. One may require more personal therapies, while another may just benefit from the support and surround of good 12-step group. We work with each resident so they are fully prepared to continue with a long term sobriety. There are many variations to 12-step meetings as well. They can be based on religion, the type of addiction, and even gender. Our aftercare staff seeks to find active and effective 12-step groups for our clients, close to their place of residence. Recovery from alcoholism or drug addiction is a process. The continuing care plan is a powerful help to achieving success with this process.
