Addiction Treatment and Dual Diagnosis

Treatment for Addiction and Mood Disorders

Those who struggle with addiction can also struggle with other conditions. Psychiatric disorders are a major influence on the development of a chemical dependency. The delicate chemical structure of the central nervous system is affected by the disorder. When addictive chemicals are introduced, the disorder can take on a whole new life. Drugs and alcohol are used to suppress the feelings spurred on by the disorder, and in no time at all, the individual has developed a chemical dependency to the substance. Alcohol and drug rehab can offer treatments for the addiction and also the disorder.

The addiction treatment program at Cirque Lodge is dual diagnosis. The program is tailored to help individuals on their own level. Those suffering from a mood disorder (depression, anxiety, bi polar) are provided a treatment plan that addresses this condition. This is offered as a piece to an already highly effective addiction treatment element. Addiction and disorders are similar in make up. They are not conditions that are fixed, they are simply recovered from. The program used helps with arresting these conditions and surrounding the individual with all the measures of loving support.

Aftercare, Continuing on After Drug Rehab

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Waterfall Near Cirque LodgeFriday morning of Family Week is a lecture on aftercare. Time spent receiving alcohol or drug rehab is only the beginning. The recovering alcoholic/addict is put on the right path with treatment and therapy for their addiction. Following alcohol and drug rehab, the individual must continue to work daily at maintaining their sobriety. Aftercare programs can continue to provide help and support. The aftercare lecture helps to inform family members on how they can be involved with their loved ones aftercare efforts.

Prior to completing alcohol or drug rehab, the resident works with aftercare and their primary counselor on developing a Continuing Care Plan for their recovery. There are many forms of additional treatment and sobriety help for those in recovery. These are laid out in the Continuing Care Plan. Following this plan can be a means to staying focused on recovery efforts. Such a focus can be a foundation against a relapse from occurring.

The central piece to the Continuing Care Plan is continuing to work the 12-step process. Alcohol and drug rehab begins the 12-steps, but only the first few are addressed. When rehab is completed, the individual must voluntarily work at completing the rest of the steps. Help and support are provided through Anonymous based support groups, like NA or AA. There are even support groups for family members like Alanon/Alateen. Recovery from addiction is a process. It has many ups and downs. Involvement in support groups and working the steps of recovery are a good foundation at achieving a long term sobriety goal.

Addressing the Stigma with Alcohol Rehab

Help Your Loved One With Alcoholism

There is a certain stigma that comes from individuals with levels of alcoholism. That stigma is that their drinking is not a problem. They feel it is completely under control, and they can cut back whenever they need to. While this stigma seems to carry on inside of them, their drinking plummets farther out of control. The truth is, most of the time individuals have no control over their addiction, even if they think they do. Alcohol rehab or drug rehab should never be considered as a shameful thing. You are simply getting help for a problem similar to any other health related matter. Like it or not, addiction does affect the health of the overall body and mind.

Cirque Lodge offers a caring alcohol rehab program for those who are struggling with any alcohol related problem. When it is alcoholism issue, we personally treat it with an intensive and effective program. We even offer programming for family members to better come to grips with the alcohol issue. With all the forms of addiction and substance problems there are, alcoholism and abuse is by far the most wide spread. Get your loved one the help they need with a caring alcohol rehab treatment. This is found at the serenity of the mountains at Cirque Lodge.

The First Day of Family Week

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Family Program in Alcohol TreatmentThis morning began another family program here at Cirque Lodge. Residents in our alcohol treatment or drug rehab program are encouraged to invite their family members to attend. Alcoholism and alcohol abuse are far more than a personal problem. Family members can also be affected by the actions and erratic behaviors caused drinking. Family members can also be looking for help and support in dealing with their loved one’s addiction. Family Week is a place where that is found.

The opening day of Family Week programming usually consist of two elements. First is an introductions meeting. This is a place where family members sit in a session with each other (minus their loved ones who are in treatment), and discuss why they are attending Family Week. Cirque Lodge counselors run this introductions workshop. Covered in this workshop are lessons on codependency and enabling. Many family members are unaware of how their own behavior is contributing to a codependent relationship or enabling their loved one to drink.

In the afternoon, the family program provides a lecture on the disease concept of addiction. Family members can have misconceptions on their loved ones alcohol problem. This lecture helps to educate them on the nature of addiction and how the alcoholic reacts due to the significant changes to the chemical structure to the central nervous system. A local medical professional in the field of neurosciences provides this lecture that is filled information on this concept. It is a full day to begin family program to be sure. These elements can help to clear up some of the misconceptions that loved ones can have regarding alcoholism or drug addiction.

Some Help with Recovery

A Balcony at Cirque Lodge

When alcohol or drug rehab is completed, the individual must continue to work at their recovery. At Cirque Lodge, we do not stop our efforts with residents. The residential treatment stay is completed, but we want to continually help our residents in achieving a long term sobriety. Clients are prescribed a Continuing Care Plan for the recovery process. This Plan continues the treatment efforts followed by the recovering alcoholic/addict. There are many elements of aftercare and therapy programs available for those pursuing their recovery.

Recovery from addiction requires effort. A person who is complacent in their recovery is greatly more at risk for relapsing. Continuing with help and support can be a solid means against this. This is where groups like Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous can be utilized. They are a means of relapse prevention and provide helping support along the way. Central to this recovery process is one’s connection to their higher power and maintaining that connection. 12-step support programs can be central to this.

At Cirque, we are continually finding ways to help our Alumni as they work at their recovery. We have developed an Alumni Relations department. Its purpose is to stay in touch with Alumni after they leave the facility; to make sure they are still working at recovery and providing means of help when needed. Locally, Cirque Lodge has an aftercare program those in recovery can attend. We also provide privileges and helps, like Guesting and Family Week attendance, for those who have successfully completed drug rehab here. These are means of relapse prevention, and ways we as a leading alcohol and drug rehab facility strive to help our clients in recovery.

Alcohol Rehab at the Studio

Outside the Cirque Lodge Studio

Originally, the Cirque Lodge alcohol rehab facility was just the retreat up at Sundance. As the drug rehab program at Cirque Lodge started to have success, it was realized that this limited enrollment facility wasn’t enough to fill the need. The Studio, located at the mouth of Provo Canyon, became the second of Cirque’s facilities. Formerly a movie and TV studio, this was a massive building with limitless possibilities for addiction therapies and venues for experiential work. A renovation to the building made it ideal as a rehab facility.

The Studio is home of the day-to-day administrative operations of Cirque Lodge. Within the facility are a number of personal therapy and group therapy rooms for those in alcohol rehab. Men’s and Women’s accommodations are located on separate floors and are what you would expect from a high end addiction treatment facility. In the warmer months, the Studio has a wide assortment of beautiful flowers. The rose garden has a gazebo which is a nice quiet place to meditate on things. The Studio is private, with a large security gate at the entrance.

Perhaps the most amazing part of the Studio facility is the soundstage. This 17,000 sq foot room was used in filming different scenes from movies and TV programs. Today, it hosts an indoor ropes and climbing facility for those in alcohol rehab. Cirque residents have a chance to take part in a number of different of experiential activities and problem solving and skill building exercises. At the end of each of these activities, residents sit down and discuss what was learned through the exercise, and how it can be applied to the recovery process.

The River, a Venue for Drug Rehab

River is a Venue for Experiential Activities

Alcohol and drug rehab at Cirque Lodge uses many locations to help individuals suffering with addiction. The surrounding mountains and canyons are used in providing recovery activities. The Provo River is a venue for alcohol and drug rehab activities as well. The Provo River is a famous fly fishing destination and fishing is an aspect we use in our experiential program. Not all elements of rehabilitation take place on a therapy couch. The mountains and the river provide a venue for healing and connecting to one’s higher power.

The River is used for a number of different things. Some residents are given the opportunity to learn fly fishing as an experiential activity. The Provo River is also used for rafting activities, walks and hikes, and as a quiet place for meditation and reflection. Different experiential activities give the residents of Cirque Lodge a chance to find a private place along the river banks and do some thinking. This can be place for making connections with nature and one’s higher power. The quiet serenity of the nature can speak volumes to the troubled mind. River activities can be influential in providing the spiritual experiences needed for an internal change.

Drug Rehab for Xanax Addiction

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

Need Help with Prescripiton Addiction? Some of the drugs meant to help us in treating problems can also be a hindrance due to addiction. One such prescription medication is Xanax. Xanax is a benzodiazepine, a commonly used central nervous system depressant. It is prescribed to treat conditions and disorders involving anxiety and panic attacks. Over time, People can begin to abuse Xanax for its calming effects on not to treat the disorder. Cirque Lodge provides a personalized drug rehab program for those are struggling with an addiction to Xanax.

Withdrawal from Xanax can be a lengthy process. Withdrawal from most drugs peaks in a few days. Benzodiazepines can take longer, even weeks. During drug rehab at Cirque Lodge, caring staff members are available twenty-four hours a day to meet resident’s needs. They can help with the right treatment and care for Xanax addiction, with personalized therapies. Cirque Lodge is a dual diagnosis facility. We can help the individual with the addiction, as well as diagnosing and treating the anxiety disorder. There are less addictive alternatives to treating anxiety disorders. Dual diagnosis can help in prescribing these.

On top of the more intensive forms of treatment, Cirque Lodge provides experiences. Drug rehab for Xanax addiction is balanced with a number of helpful learning activities, and also nature based outdoor experiential work. These help to teach lessons in coping, as well as developing strategies and skills for the recovery process. They help to make rehab more fun and show the joys of sobriety. Unique and life changing experiences in drug rehab can help those struggling with a Xanax addiction to achieve a successful recovery.

Foundations in the 12-step Program

Vital Spiritual Experiences at Cirque Lodge

Part of alcohol and drug rehab is to help residents have a firm foundation of the 12-step program. Many different lectures, workshops and activities are used to teach concepts of 12-step recovery. Tools and skills are needed for the recovery process. The alcoholic/addict must find ways to manage their impulses and reach daily goals of sobriety. The help and support of the 12-step community can be a needed crutch in times of struggle when relapsing is a possibility. At Cirque Lodge, we introduce the concepts of the 12-step program, and provide activities to make them more meaningful and a part of life.

Since an alcohol and drug rehab stay isn’t enough time to work through many of the steps, we focus on helping residents establish the initial ones. These are the steps that deal with making connections to a higher power. The mountain and nature are used in helping our residents in achieving such connections. At Cirque, we focus on providing vital spiritual experiences for our residents. Such experiences create the internal changes needed to steer away from the controlling influences of alcoholism or drug abuse.

When rehab is completed, enrollment and involvement in a 12-step fellowship continues the work of this recovery process. Prior to leaving treatment at Cirque Lodge, residents begin the practice of attending meetings and working with a temporary sponsor. Relapse is a very real problem. The odds of long term sobriety over relapsing are very small. It is the reality of the disease. Continuing the steps, maintaining connections to a higher power, and active involvement in recovery groups can provide a solid foundation for lasting sobriety.
