Begin the Recovery Process

Friday, October 30th, 2009

The Joys of RecoveryAt Cirque Lodge, the alcoholic or addict is treated for their addiction. We also help them to begin the recovery process. Working at a life long recovery must become a daily focus. It is a misconception that alcohol and drug rehab is all that is needed. Treatment in a rehab setting helps to put the disease into remission. It is then up to the individual to keep it that way. A unique alcohol and drug rehab experience at Cirque Lodge can introduce individuals to 12-steps and prepare them for working the recovery process.

After rehab is completed, help and support is found in recovery groups and meetings. The 12-step community provides a safe haven for continuing the recovery process. Those fresh out of alcohol or drug rehab are assigned a sponsor. Regular meeting attendance and involvement can build strength and momentum for the recovery process. Over time, the impulses to use or to drink can lessen; these impulses can be replaced by new found values that come from the joys of recovery and working the program.

The recovery process provides a complete spectrum for healing and changing. At first, in a rehab setting, the steps are more geared for helping ones self. The struggles of addiction and of life are treated with caring therapies. After alcohol and drug rehab is completed, the steps progress into helping others. Through this, the alcoholic/addict can strengthen their recovery. Each and every day, miracles are happening. Alcoholics and addicts everywhere are making the steps for a lasting recovery. However, the sobering truth is that everyday individuals are also dying from this malady. We have got to reach out and help them find their way to recovery.

Rehab and a Helicopter

Cirque Lodge Helicopter

Even with the winter weather, the Cirque Lodge helicopter flies on the good days. This rainbow colored helicopter is exclusively used by those here in alcohol or drug rehab. It takes them on private helicopter tours of the local mountains and ski resorts. The helicopter is a luxury flying machine and provides a fun and comfortable experience. Not all parts of alcohol and drug rehab at Cirque Lodge are intensive. Elements of our experiential program provide ways to have fun in recovery and help with spiritual experiences.

The helicopter flights are reserved for the residents who have been in the program for awhile. This piece is used in addressing the 3rd step, turning over one’s will to a higher power. A top a quiet mountain peak, is where the helicopter lands. Residents have the opportunity to do a bit of hiking, or just to find a quiet spot to do some reflection. The mountain top is virtually miles away from the struggles of everyday life. It is quiet and serene. One can make needed connections to themselves and to something greater in nature.

Once in a lifetime experiences, like the helicopter, can be used as a foundation for continuing recovery. That is why we offer such unique and memorable things here at the Cirque Lodge. We strive to make all of this a life changing experience. Former residents and Alumni can look back at their time here in the mountains as the point they turned their life around and began a new one.

First Snows at Cirque Lodge

Late in October, the weather is changing here at Cirque Lodge. The colors of autumn give way to the snows of winter. The snow provides a quiet serenity to those in alcohol and drug rehab. Experiential activities do some changing when the snow falls. Recovery mountain hikes now require snow shoes. The horses go indoors, and the residents in rehab must dawn winter garb when they get out on the mountain. No matter the weather, inside the Cirque Lodge you find a caring program and an environment conducive to recovery.

The freshness of a winter morning is awing. The cold snow seems to give the mountains clean fresh coat. Those in alcohol or drug rehab can need this in their lives, a clean fresh start. Caring therapies are provided to help in addressing the fears and internal problems. Experiential work helps with making the steps for recovery and restoring the joys of life. There is something to be said about nature and the mountains. It can be a needed release from the struggles of regular life. The spirit of the mountain can be a life changing experience. The ruling forces of alcoholism or drug addiction are replaced with a new set of conceptions and motives; those of recovery.

Alcohol Rehab Focused on the Family

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Every third week of alcohol rehab is focused on the Family. Residents of Cirque Lodge are encouraged to involve their family members in this programming. Family Week runs from Tuesday through Friday. Each day provides different education and therapeutic elements to the family and their loved one in alcohol or drug rehab. It gives the family a chance to see their loved one in alcohol treatment and to learn things needed for the recovery process. Alcoholism is a family problem. Loved ones must work together in support to overcome these struggles.

Family members may be completely unaware of how behavior is affecting their alcoholic loved one. The majority of relationships, where addiction is involved, can be classed as codependent. Living this way enables the alcoholic to drink. Part of family week is to better educate family members on the nature and behavior of addiction. They learn about codependency and ways to avoid the behaviors that enable. Special sessions are also provides to help the family with communication and with honest feelings.

Family Week also gives the loved ones of our residents a chance to experience the Cirque Lodge first hand. Our chefs provide delicious breakfasts and lunches each day. Experiential activities are available for participation. Therapy and care is even provided by the counselors of our treatment staff. Effective support is needed after alcohol rehab is completed. A supportive home can be a solid foundation for continuing the recovery process. Family Week can provide the education and help needed for this to become a reality.

Help and Care with Prescription Drug Treatment

Monday, October 26th, 2009

The Struggles of Prescription Drug AbuseThe Cirque Lodge is here to help individuals in need of prescription drug treatment. In recent years addiction to prescription medication has alarmingly increased. At the Cirque, we have seen this increase in those we have treated. When we first opened our doors over a decade ago, the majority of those who came to alcohol and drug rehab had an alcohol problem. Many more can now be identified as having a prescription drug problem. The risk is that these medications are intended to help us. People are unaware of the dangers of the pill’s addictiveness, or do they see a habit forming before it’s too late.

Help and care with prescription drug treatment at Cirque Lodge begins with a personalized effort. We strive to help each individual on the level they require. Caring staff members are always available to help and to address concerns.
Time here in the mountains can be a means to ending the prescription drug abuse problem. The 12-step program is introduced to provide additional help, care and support for the recovery process.

The scare with the increase in prescription drug cases is the increase in overdoses and death. Don’t let this happen to your loved one. Time in a drug rehab facility can be a means getting their life back on track. Therapy and care can put the disease into remission. Recovery programs can show the individual ways to keep it their.

A Balance to Addiction Treatment

A Balance to Addiction Treatment

Alcohol and drug rehab at Cirque Lodge consists of many different elements. This effective balance provides the things needed for proper rehabilitation and the recovery process. Balanced into this addiction treatment approach is the use of experiential activities and a spiritual focus on recovery. The alcohol or drug rehab program is sensitive to the needs of the individual. Each resident works through their own program, with their own personal treatment counselor. Personal one-on-one therapies are used to address the concerns of each individual.

Group and family elements are introduced as a part of addiction treatment. This can help the individual to build support for the recovery process. The family program instructs family members on ways they can provide a supportive home environment. The alcoholic/addict must always know they are never alone with their problems. There is always help and support available. Cirque Lodge is based on a 12-step modality, and continuing the 12-steps after alcohol and drug rehab is an effective measure for a lasting sobriety.

The use of experiential activities provides a completely different light to addiction treatment. It makes the entire experience a little more enjoyable and meaningful. Indoor and outdoor activities are used to teach recovery lessons. The alcoholic/addict benefits and learns from the experience. A large part of this is the use of nature and our mountain environment. Residents can find answers for their problems in the spirit and serenity of nature. It can speak peace to the chaos that is drug addiction or alcoholism. Experiential activities teach concepts of the 12-step program and also lessons for life. It provides a unique and effective balance to our addiction treatment program.

An Education on Addiction

An Education on Addiction at the Cirque

Part of alcohol and drug rehab is to better educate our clients on the nature of addiction. Unless they have already gone through a rehabilitation process before, the alcoholic/addict is unaware what substance abuse is doing to them. We provide educational and engaging lectures and workshops to teach clients what they need to know about the disease of addiction, and the work of the recovery process. Members of the Cirque Lodge staff and visiting professionals provide a number of different topics of learning.

Family Week is also filled with educational elements and lectures. Residents and their family members are educated on the impact of addiction on the family system. Workshops and lectures also address codependency, enabling and planning for the future with aftercare. Alcohol and drug rehab at Cirque Lodge is a 12-step program, and we emphasize the disease concept. A lecture on this concept is provided to help family members better understand the impact that alcoholism and drug addiction has on the central nervous, and its resulting behaviors. An educated family is better prepared for helping their loved one through the recovery process.

The education continues at Cirque Lodge outside a classroom setting. A large portion of what is learned out of recovery is discovered with experiential work. Indoor and outdoors activities and challenges teach imperative lessons on the recovery concepts. The mountain is a venue for learning about the 12-step program. The ropes activities challenge the behaviors of addiction. This education can be an influential piece to a lasting and successful sobriety.

Treating Grief in Alcohol Rehab

Treating Grief with Alcohol Rehab

For some, the drinking problem is covering up a deeper issue. The loss of a loved one, or a traumatic experience can lead to grieving. Alcohol has the ability to suppress these feelings for a time. The problem is that they don’t go away, and more and more of the drink is needed to have the same suppression. The grieving problem becomes an alcoholism problem. The struggles have now compounded. The suffering is still going on, but the endless drinking has brought all new complications to the picture.

At Cirque Lodge, we use a caring and individualized alcohol and drug rehab program. Elements of alcohol rehab are used to put the drinking problem into remission. All the while, caring licensed counselors provide therapies to address the grieving problem. A supportive and healing environment is conducive to recovery. It is also sensitive to the individual who is trying to heal from these deeply rooted emotions. Alcoholism can amplify the feelings of hopelessness and fear. Our caring alcohol rehab program provides the healing and therapy needed to restore hope and showing the joys that come from productive living.

Connections with a Horse

Cirque Lodge Horses

As a part of alcohol and drug rehab, residents of Cirque Lodge participate in a number of activities. These unique activities teach very effective recovery lessons, and provide a therapeutic experience. One of these unique activities involves working with horses. The alcoholic/addict undergoes a metamorphosis when working with this noble animal. When presented to each other, neither the horse nor the individual have any trust or understanding. By time the exercise is completed, both parties involved have made a connection.

The equine program is quite the process for some. Some residents do not want anything to do with the horse. Horses are creatures of flight and acutely aware. The individual’s negative intentions can be reflected in flighty actions from the horse. Members of our experiential staff are there every step of the way. However, this is an exercise, and the resident must use proper communication in receiving instruction. Through the struggles it may become apparent that the client must ask for help with their problem. This is a similar example to life and addiction; one can ask for help with things that are beyond their control.

Through this exercise a connection is made. The resident in alcohol and drug rehab gains the trust of the horse. The horse is now willing to submit to any command with this trust. For the alcoholic/addict, it is always amazing to see what they gain from the exercise. The horses provide them what they stand in need of. Some can be struggling with their drug rehab stay. Time with the horses can help them in making connections and life changing decisions. The resident who wanted nothing to do with the horse is now making trips each day out to the stalls to see their new friend.

Alcohol Treatment and Dual Diagnosis

Dual Diagnosis at Cirque Lodge

Cirque offers dual diagnosis to the alcoholic. A majority of individuals that we treat can also be diagnosed as having a form of co-occurring disorder, like depression, bi polar, anxiety or eating disorders. Alcohol treatment is tailored to address the conditions of addiction, as well as therapy and care for the disorder. Each individual in alcohol and drug rehab works personally through their own specific program. Our psychiatric professional meets regularly with all residents to help them with their dual diagnosis needs.

Dual diagnosis is an effective approach to individuals who are unaware they even have such a condition. Once in alcohol treatment, they experience emotions and feelings they have never experienced; mainly because these were masked by the constant drinking. An advantage of dual diagnosis is that we can properly diagnose and treat the individual for their condition. All the while they are receiving proper therapy, care and support for their alcoholism problem. Both conditions require coping strategies for the initial months of recovery. Cirque’s balanced program provides many avenues for developing skills for this process.
