The Help of Intervention Services

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

Sometimes getting the alcoholic into a rehab setting is easier said than done. The stigma that is built up by the addiction has created a mindset within the individual. They will go to great lengths to protect their drinking habit. For many who have loved ones with a drinking problem, planning an intervention is an effective approach. A motivational and loving intervention can be the means to getting that loved one into an appropriate alcohol or drug rehab facility.

Interventions can greatly increase these chances. The use of a professional interventionist is by far the most effective. Intervention services bring with them experience. They understand and know the reactions that can occur. Sometimes the intervention can bring out negative things. The alcoholic can feel betrayed and can resist. However, the interventionist has experience in these things and can bring it back to where it needs to be. An effective intervention can show the alcoholic not only that there concern regarding the drinking, but that there is also love and support.

Cirque Lodge recommends the use of an intervention services for getting a loved one into treatment. We work with many leading interventionists. A call to our admissions staff can help you get information on getting in touch with an intervention service. Intervention services also provide monitoring and some treatment and aftercare programs for those they work with. For those who are concerned about their loved ones drinking, and are always challenged about it, perhaps it is time to intervene and get them the help they stand in need of.

Personalizing Care in Addiction Treatment

Personal One-on-one Care

At Cirque Lodge, we personalize therapies to meet resident needs. The alcoholism or drug addiction can be a result of medicating away more deeply rooted issues. Individuals can be suffering in many different ways. Personal one-on-one therapy is provided to get to the heart of these matters. This creates a therapeutic environment for addressing traumatic experiences, or individuals who are grieving in some from. This plays a part with the other elements of alcohol and drug rehab to provide an overall effective recovery experience.

Another reason to personalize the program is to treat the individual on the level they require. Each person comes from a different walk of life. What they need from an addiction treatment program can be different. A mother of four from the East Coast with a prescription problem can have very different requirements than a college student from Texas. Personalizing the program gives each of these cases exactly what they need from a treatment standpoint.

Personalizing care also can help individuals with 12-step recovery. Once again, you are dealing with different individuals and their views on spirituality. We are sensitive to this. The program is tailored to help residents find the best course to their higher power and a greater spiritual plane. This is one of the reasons we use the mountain and nature. Individuals are invited to make their own connections to a power greater than their own, however they conceive that power.

Addressing Addiction with a Ropes Course

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Resident on Crossing the Ropes CourseAlcoholism and drug addiction thrive in the emotion of fear. At Cirque Lodge, we have a unique way of addressing fear with those in alcohol and drug rehab. We use a rope course. At the Studio, a 17,000 ft. soundstage houses the world’s largest indoor ropes challenge course and climbing facility, dedicated for those in addiction treatment. This facility is used for many different high and low ropes events. The high ropes elements are ran by our experiential team; all of them are certified and trained climbers. They provide those in drug rehab a safe and memorable ropes experience.

High ropes events can help the alcoholic/addict in getting out of their comfort frame. This comfort is built up in the mindset of drinking and using. A climbing activity can help them in tackling their fears and having a sense of accomplishment. Through these exercises, the individual is answering to challenges placed forth by the experiential team. Fellow residents are also present providing help and support. In fact, some ropes activities require residents to work as a team to accomplish the feat. Achieving these feats can replace the fear and the struggles of addiction with new concepts of recovery.

With every experiential activity, a sit down occurs. Residents and the experiential staff have a discussion on what was learned and how it applies to the recovery process. Individuals can take a number of different things away from working with the high ropes events. Interestingly enough, most times it is exactly what they are in need of, personally, for their own recovery process.

Two Facilities at Cirque Lodge

Alcohol Treatment and Drug Rehab at Cirque LodgeA unique element to Cirque Lodge is that we offer two distinct facilities for alcohol treatment and drug rehab services. The Lodge is nestled in the mountains, and provides a private and exclusive treatment. The Studio is a larger enrollment treatment community and provides a number of venues for experiential work. Both facilities are based on the very same, highly effective addiction treatment program. Multiple facilities allow us to treat a wide array of individuals with varying needs.

The Lodge is a limited enrollment facility. It offers a limited number of beds. Initially, this was all that was needed. However, the success of the alcohol treatment and drug rehab program provided a greater demand for rehabilitation services. The Studio was created, and a renovation to this former television studio made it ideal for an addiction facility. The Studio also gave Cirque Lodge a venue for individuals in need of extended treatment stays. Both facilities work in accordance to each other. Residents of the Lodge are oftentimes at the Studio to participate in an experiential activity.

No matter the facility, the resident in rehab is personally treated with the highest levels of care and professionalism. Cirque Lodge facilities provide a luxury and comfortable treatment experience, but at the heart of this experience is a personalized and caring recovery program. Whether a client is at the Lodge or Studio, they have a commitment to receive the very best in a personalized treatment effort.

Cirque Lodge and the 12-step Program

Friday, October 9th, 2009

Cirque is founded on the 12-step program developed by Alcoholics Anonymous. We use the Big Book as a foundation for many concepts of overcoming alcoholism and drug addiction. The founders of the 12-step program found strength in sharing their recovery story and helping fellow alcoholics to achieve that same joy in sobriety. At Cirque, we use different elements of alcohol and drug rehab to help residents in beginning the steps. This can be influential in them creating their own recovery story. All the while, caring support and therapy is provided to help the resident through the challenging things.

A number of Cirque Lodge staff is in successful recovery. Some have found this recovery through this very alcohol and drug rehab facility. These are individuals who have an enthusiasm for this program. They look forward to sharing it with your loved one who may be struggling. People need support and individuals who are influential in helping them with recovery. This influence is needed for staying focused on daily goals, and influential in maintaining that connection to a power greater than one’s own.

The 12th step is to take the message of the program to other alcoholics and addicts. At the Cirque, this is our daily focus; to help those who struggle with chemical dependency to find a foundation within this modality. When alcohol and drug rehab is completed, continuing the steps and the support of a 12-step fellowship can be the means to finding a long term and hopefully, a lasting sobriety.

Spiritual Experiences in Alcohol and Drug Rehab

Spiritual Experiences in Alcohol and Drug Rehab

A part of alcohol and drug rehab is placed on having vital spiritual experiences. The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous explains these experiences as “huge emotional displacements and rearrangements”. The influencing forces of alcoholism and drug addiction are replaced by new convictions. At Cirque Lodge, we feel this comes from within. We strive to provide our residents with every opportunity we can for them to experience this spiritual and internal change. We do this by providing a caring recovery program, intended to address the psychological, emotional and spiritual.

Usually, if someone hears “spiritual” words, they think religion. With alcohol and drug rehab at Cirque Lodge, the religious aspect only comes into play if the individual client needs it for the success of their program. We use nature, the mountain, and the power of the group to help individuals in finding their higher spiritual plane. Experiential activities are introduced to help residents with the healing of nature. Such vital spiritual experiences can be a foundation for continuing the program and finding a lasting sobriety. With that, the alcoholic/addict can leave our facility and help others to find and achieve the same.

Planning for Recovery

Falls Near the Cirque Lodge Facilities

Cirque Lodge residents are not left alone when they are discharged after successfully completing alcohol or drug rehab. We work with residents in creating a plan for their aftercare experience. There are many options when it comes to programs to assist through the recovery process. At Cirque, each resident works with our aftercare team on developing the best plan of action for this transition process. Closely following this plan is a means to staying sober and having a long term recovery.

There are many different kinds of living facilities and extended care programs that help to transition successfully back to society in a sober way. The advantage to a sober living type of facility is that the individual always has a safe place to come home to. Also to help those in recovery are an endless array of support groups. At Cirque, continuing the 12-steps is a foundation for the recovery process. A part of each plan is to continue to work with groups like Alcoholics Anonymous or an appropriate 12-step fellowship. There are also many other forms of groups and counseling available to assist with the recovery process.

The most challenging part for many in recovery are the social situations, parties, plane flights, and similar triggers that spark the impulse to drink or to use. Working with a sober companion or an appointed sponsor can be helpful for such situations. At Cirque, residents can work with a temporary sponsor while they still are in alcohol and drug rehab. Trigger situations can require this level of personal support. A sober companion or sponsor can be that means of support before taking that first drink or drug.

Family Week at Cirque Lodge

Family Week at Cirque Lodge

Every third week of the treatment cycle at Cirque Lodge is dedicated to working with families. Family Week runs Tuesday through Friday, and today begins another family program at the Studio. Residents in alcohol and drug rehab are encouraged to invite family members to participate. Each day begins with a breakfast and community meeting and then consists of a day full of recovery activities.

Family Week helps to raise awareness on the nature of addiction. Loved ones who attend this program are educated on this through a number of enjoyable lectures and workshops. Family members can have a number of misconceptions about their loved ones drinking/using. These elements help to address the disease concept of addiction. It also addresses the behaviors that enable the individual to maintain their addictive lifestyle. A workshop is given on codependency and how to avoid falling into the codependent trap within the home. There is also an aftercare lecture to emphasize the need for aftercare when alcohol or drug rehab is completed.

Special therapy sessions are also provided during the family program. A lot of problems, friction, can be found within the home. This can be enabling the addiction in ways the family is not aware of. Process Groups and personal counseling sessions are provided to help with establishing honest lines of communication. This element to the family program can be the most difficult of all. In the long run, however, it can be a therapeutic piece. This can begin to lay the groundwork for the 9th step of recovery which involves making amends for ones mistakes.

Experiential Program at Cirque Lodge

Experiential Activity on the Mountain

Where Cirque Lodge takes a little different approach to alcohol and drug rehab is with our experiential program. Experiential activities are used in part with the more intensive elements of addiction treatment and therapy. Cirque Lodge provides an active approach to the recovery process. The alcoholic/addict can develop skills they need for dealing addiction through hands on developmental and therapeutic activities. Experiential work can challenge the mindset of addiction. The individual in rehab learns ways to deal with their behavior and can develop support from others.

The integral element to experiential work comes from the experiences themselves. At Cirque, we want to give those in alcohol and drug rehab every opportunity at an internal, spiritual change. Nature, horses, and the mountain are used in teaching concepts of the 12-step program. These concepts are based in find and reconnecting to one’s higher power. Such spiritual experiences can be a change in conviction. The mindset to seek and use drugs or alcohol is replaced with new influences. Residents are given time on the mountain to think, reflect and make those connections to a power greater than their own.

Experiential work also provides a fun and enjoyable element to addiction treatment. Let’s be honest, overcoming addiction is a challenge, and parts of treatment and therapy are intensive and difficult. A chance to get out on the mountain every day, can give the alcoholic/addict time to reflect on things and make those important life changing decisions. It can show the individual ways they can have fun in their sobriety, and show them activities they can perform to stay connected to a higher power.

An Active Alcohol Rehab Program

An Active Alcohol Rehab Program

Alcohol and drug rehab provides healing and answers for the body, mind and spirit. Cirque Lodge is an active program. We have different elements to help those in alcohol rehab with healing for the body. One of the prerequisites we have for entering our facility is that the individual be able physically to participate in all elements of treatment and activity. Different indoor and outdoor activities are used each day to help with physical recovery and teach skills for coping with alcoholism.

Cirque Lodge also has a focus on yoga. Yoga is more than just an exercise. Those who practice yoga find a balance for conducting themselves and a balance to their lives. The residents in alcohol rehab can greatly benefit from a balance like this. Residents are introduced to the practices of yoga. This can be used as a tool in recovery after alcohol rehab is completed. Personal trainers are also available for those in extended care to improve their overall health and wellness through circuit training workouts.

A lot of times, those who come to us to treat their addiction problem are in pretty bad shape. An active program helps them to physically recover; while the effective therapies treat them for their disease and provide rehabilitation.
