Recovery Experiences for the Human Spirit

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Addiction treatment at Cirque Lodge offers recovery for the body, mind and spirit.  The spiritual aspect is one that many can struggle with. Those struggling with alcoholism or drug addiction can be at low ebb in this department. In working a 12-step program, spiritual recovery is a must, and at Cirque Lodge we strive to provide experiences that can invoke an internal, spiritual change. In this sense, spiritual change isn’t necessarily a religious experience. We allow the residents of our alcohol and drug rehab facility to find this change however they view it. The mountains, nature, and even concepts of Native American culture are used to teach the concepts of the human spirit.

The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous talks about vital spiritual experiences. These experiences create a ‘huge emotional displacement and rearrangements.’  The ideas and ruling forces of alcoholism and drug addiction are replaced with new concepts and motives. The variety of addiction treatment and programs go into this at Cirque Lodge. We want to give each resident as many opportunities as they need to have such an experience while in treatment. For some it can take the entire 12-step process before such a spiritual change is discovered. For our residents it begins here with the spiritual recovery experiences found at Cirque Lodge.

Drug Rehab, Treatment in the Mountains

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

For those struggling with alcoholism or drug addiction, we at Cirque Lodge encourage you to come to the mountains. The Native Americans of this region viewed these mountains as a holy place for healing. They provide serenity to life and a peace to the soul. For those with the malady of addiction, this serenity and peace can be found through our caring and effective addiction treatment program. It is a program that is combined with experiential outings into nature; where the alcoholic/addict can experience first hand this peace and serenity.

The mountains are also a place for recovery activities. At the Cirque, we strive to provide engaging activities to replace the habits and the impulses that are brought through substance abuse. Along with these activities are important lessons on life and the recovery process. These activities are also used to rebuild the human spirit and to invoke needed internal changes. Such activities are also fun and show ways to enjoy a life free from the struggles of addiction.

There is a healing and therapy found in nature. It is our hope that those suffering from the disease of addiction can utilize this in their lives and use it as a foundation for continuing on. Experiences such as these are skills that can be used as relapse prevention in the future. The residents of Cirque Lodge are shown many positive ways to continue the recovery process. In times of struggle a trip into the mountains, along a lake, or on the beach can be a tool for refocusing ones efforts on sobriety. If someone you love is suffering from alcoholism or drug addiction, perhaps it is time for them to come to the mountains. It is our hope that we can help them find a peace, serenity and healing for their disease.

A Balance To Treatment and Rehab

Monday, March 29th, 2010

The most effective way to treat alcoholism or drug addiction is by offering a different number of treatment types to the individual. While people struggle with the common malady of addiction, their needs and weaknesses can be very distinct. Cirque Lodge offers an effective treatment program that provides a balance of treatment and therapies. All of this is based upon the needs of the individual. A personal assessment and individualized therapies are used to reach and rehabilitate individuals with the care they require.

The balance of treatments is offered in individual, group and also a family setting. Each treatment day consists of different educational and rehabilitative efforts. Cirque is founded on a 12-step recovery program and treatment centers around the modality of Alcoholics Anonymous. One-on-one therapy sessions are also scheduled with individuals each week during their stay. Family is invited every third week to attend programming specifically created for them as well.

The unique program to alcohol and drug rehab at Cirque Lodge is our use of experiential activities. We use a number of learning and challenge activities to teach lessons of recovery. Nature and the mountain play a large part of this and residents have many opportunities to get outdoors and experience it. In addition to this, we use a ropes course, horses, art and even a private helicopter to provide a fun and unique recovery experience. When balanced with the other traditional elements of alcohol and drug rehab, the experiential work has helped in making the Cirque a highly effective recovery experience.

Family Systems Lecture in Drug Rehab

Friday, March 26th, 2010

Many different programs are used during the family program at Cirque Lodge. The programs are intended to not only provide healing and recovery for those in alcohol or drug rehab, but also offer these same elements to their loved ones who attend. Lectures and workshops are provided to better educate individuals on the nature of addiction. Therapies are provided to help in addressing concerns, offering counsel and opening the lines of communication between the alcoholic/addict and family.

A family systems lecture allows for families to better understand their role in all of this. It raises awareness on codependent behaviors that can act as a fuel for addictive behavior.  Family members and their loved ones sit on opposite sides of the lecture.  They suggest different behaviors and feelings based on their role as a family member or as the addict. The lectures also look into the enabling affects of these behaviors.  The resolution of the workshop is to show the family better ways to communicate and take responsibility for these actions.

When the family systems lecture is concluded, those involved have a chance to begin this process of communication and responsibility. Group and therapy sessions are utilized to open the lines of communication between families. These sessions are conducted by licensed counselors and therapists. It can be the first time in a long time that family members can openly and honestly communicate about addiction and the struggles it has caused. Alcoholism and drug addiction can build up barriers. These types of therapy sessions can help to tear those down. It provides the family an even plane to begin healing and recovery together.

The Struggle of Prescription Drug Abuse

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

In recent years, the reality of prescription drug has become a cause for concern. In most of the United States, the cases of prescription drug abuse and addiction are on an alarming rise. Subsequently, this has increased the cases of overdoses and deaths relating to this kind of addiction. The dynamic of the addict has changed as well. The individual is no longer looking for a dealer to get their fix. They are shopping for doctors who are willing to fulfill prescriptions, or robbing pharmacies for pills and not money.

There is help for those who are struggling with prescription drug addiction. The majority of addiction treatment and recovery programs are seeing a constant increase in individuals seeking treatment for this condition. Cirque Lodge has seen this increase in our facilities. If you see this type of behavior in your loved one, perhaps it is time to get them help…before it is too late. At Cirque Lodge, we use a unique and effective program. It provides the individual with the skills they need to abstain and shows them fun and positive ways to enjoy the recovery process.

Dual Diagnosis Addiction Program

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

For many individuals who struggle with alcoholism or drug addiction, the substance abuse isn’t the only problem. Many people who are classified as an alcoholic or drug addict are also diagnosed with a form of co-occurring psychiatric disorder. Cirque Lodge offers dual diagnosis for these individuals. That is a treatment and care for the addiction/disorder through a personalized effort. Both of these conditions require a recovery program. At Cirque, we strive to make this a very unique and life changing experience.

Clients meet constantly with members of our clinical team to address both addiction concerns and mood disorders. They also meet throughout their treatment stay with psychiatric and medical professionals. This is to continually diagnose the individual for their co-occurring issue that they might have. Substance abuse and mood disorders are both central nervous system conditions. Having one can make it more likely that the other one will develop.

Years of alcohol or drug abuse can also suppress the mood disorders. Once the individual is cleaned up and the substance is no longer within the system, they can experience symptoms of this disorder. This can be a result of addiction withdrawal. Proper diagnosis at Cirque Lodge helps to determine if this is the case, or if the individual is dealing with a disorder. Treatment is then tailored with the individual’s needs in mind with appropriate therapy and care.

Addiction Help From a Caring Staff

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

Addiction Help From a Caring StaffWhen an individual comes to Cirque Lodge for alcohol or drug rehab, they are surrounded by a caring and helpful staff.  Many individuals who find recovery have had an influential person who has helped them along the way. It is our hope that those in need of addiction help can find that in our caring staff. It is a staff that strives to exceed expectations on every level. From the highest of clinicians to the housekeeping staff, the focus is to meet and exceed our residents needs and expectations. Alcohol and drug rehab can be quite the process. Caring individuals can help to ease some of these burdens. Members of staff can also provide the individual with a needed challenge to strengthen their weaknesses when it comes to addiction.

A good number of the Cirque Staff are in successful recovery. Not long ago, they were individuals who were on a similar path of addiction and destruction. With the help of an effective recovery program (some are alumn of the Cirque itself), these individuals have dedicated their lives to helping others find recovery from alcoholism or drug addiction. It is the message of the 12-step program.  Once an individual has found that internal and spiritual change, it is then on their shoulders to take this message to fellow alcoholics and addicts, to assist them in finding the same.

A Difference with Experiential Learning

Friday, March 19th, 2010

It is very difficult to put into words the effectiveness and the dynamics of the experiential program at the Cirque. To balance out the more intensive elements of alcohol and drug rehab, the experiential program provides a fun and unique way of learning. It also provides a profound way to teach lessons of recovery. Instead of sitting in a group room, the alcoholic/addict develops skills on a ropes course, or by working with horses, or with excursions into nature.

Each day provides a different challenge or opportunity with experiential learning activities. On a certain day the resident can be working in the art room creating pottery.  The next day they can be challenged with an activity that requires them to use the thought processes affected by substance abuse. Our experiential team is constantly coming up with new ways for individuals to develop skills for recovery. Balanced with the clinical forms of addiction treatment, these skills can be a foundation for long term sobriety.

Experiential activities also provide the recovering alcoholic/addict with a fun approach to rehab. The intensive elements of treatment can be very taxing on an individual. Dealing with the daily therapies and programs can be demanding. Experiential activities provide the individual with a release from these things and a new way to learn recovery. Enjoying recovery can make all the difference. At Cirque Lodge, we strive to provide experiential learning activities that can be utilized as a foundation for a life free from the struggles of addiction.

Recovery with a Sponsor

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

Residents in drug rehab begin to work the recovery process and the 12-steps at Cirque Lodge. As they begin to make progress, they are allowed to attend outside 12-step meetings, while still living within the safety of the Cirque Facility. A part of attending these meetings is working with a sponsor. A temporary sponsor is assigned while the client is in drug rehab. After rehab is completed, and the resident returns to their own community, a local 12-step fellowship will provide a sponsor.

A sponsor provides a personal one-on-one support group for the individual in recovery. Sponsors are individuals who have found their own successful recovery. They have dedicated a portion of their lives to helping other achieve the same (The 12th step). Working with a sponsor can help to ease the burdens of social situations and in dealing with the possibility with relapse. They are a positive example of sober living and can be a needed crutch along the way.

Sponsors are also a means to continuing the 12-step program. After an individual leaves rehab, it is up to that person to continue the recovery process. However, involvement with 12-step meetings and a sponsor can provide a foundation for continuing on. A sponsor can help with the difficult steps of recovery and maintaining a connection to a higher power. This is not an easy process. Help along the way can make all the difference in successful long term goals of sobriety. A caring sponsor can be a means to helping the alcoholic/addict achieve this. In time, the recovering individual can in turn sponsor others to this same long term goal.
