Addiction Treatment for Co-occurring Disorders

Monday, June 6th, 2011

Addiction Treatment for Co-occurring DisordersMany individuals struggling with substance abuse and addiction also struggle with a form of mental health disorder. Chemical dependency and disorders go hand in hand. A mental health disorder can make it much more likely that an individual will develop substance abuse through self-medication. Likewise, extensive substance abuse can be an influential component in developing depression, anxiety or other mental health disorder. To treat this, many alcohol and drug rehab providers offer a co-occurring or dual diagnosis addiction program.

Cirque Lodge is a dual diagnosis alcohol and drug rehab facility. Clients meet with our medical director when they first enter treatment for assessment. This assessment is used to create a treatment plan. It consists of both the care for the addiction, but also the mental health concern. Addiction treatment at Cirque Lodge is personalized to meet the needs of the clients on an individual level. This effort can be advantageous for individual who are unaware they are dealing with mental health concerns. The years of substance abuse and self-medication have suppressed the symptoms.

It used to be that drug rehab and treatment for mental health disorders were separate entities and required different systems of treatment. In recent years the integration programs has shown a successful approach to treating both aspects of co-occurring disorders. Many programs, both public and private have begun to integrate these treatment elements to help those struggling with mental health problems and chemical dependency.

Therapy in an Addiction Treatment Program

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

Therapy in Addiction TreatmentThere is not a set way to treat the disease of addiction. That is why many drug rehab and addiction treatment providers offer a balance of many programs and therapies. Different therapies supply specific aspects of care to the individual’s psychological concerns and also can help them with emotional and behavioral issues. Therapy in a drug rehab program can consist of individualized, group and even family care. Dual diagnosis programs can provide therapies that address mental health concerns that are co-occurring with substance abuse.

Therapy sessions and counseling can be a means to addressing the underlying struggles of alcoholism or drug addiction. In addition to substance abuse, alcoholics and addicts can be suffering internally from past struggles and issues. Therapy in a drug rehab setting can be a venue for dealing with traumatic experiences and grief that have led to self-medication and abuse. Many addiction treatment providers will incorporate a family therapy to this to address these concerns and unhealthy behaviors on a family level.

An effective approach used in addiction treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy. This approach takes a close look at the individual’s thought processes and behaviors. This can be used to create strategies for relapse prevention. This form of therapy is used in different ways. Cognitive and behavioral treatment can be used through experiential programs and recovery activities as well. Family programs can also take a look at behavioral aspects and help to treat codependency in a home environment.

Most effective drug rehab and addiction programs do not just focus on therapy, but supply an effective balance of both clinical programs and recovery efforts. Recovery efforts are usually found through support and in most cases the 12-step program. After treatment is completed, the individual may choose to continue therapy with private therapist, and many rehabs continue their efforts of care through programs and fellowships like Alcoholics Anonymous. Recovery is a process and the methods of additional care can be tools in a long term sobriety.

Misconceptions about Addiction and Treatment

Friday, January 21st, 2011

Misconceptions Keep People From Getting HelpThe estimates of individuals who struggle with alcohol and drug addiction in the United States are above 20 million. The impact of this problem results in over 100,000 deaths annually and costs the nation an estimate of 300 billion dollars. Treatment is available for alcoholism and drugs, but sadly less than 10% of these individuals actually seek out help from alcohol rehabilitation or drug rehab programs. Part of this has to do with some misconceptions that people have about addiction, and also treatment and recovery. This post starts the discussion about two of them.

1. The alcoholic/addict has to hit bottom first. Alcohol and drug addiction is still a taboo topic and a sticking point for a lot of people. They either don’t want to admit there is a problem or have decided that it is ‘not that bad’, yet. Meanwhile, the behaviors and lives of the alcoholic/addict and those they influence begin to spin out of control. It is never too early to get help for an addiction problem. It is best to put the individual into a program as soon as the issue is recognized. This can help to prevent from further damage and problems mounting from the destructive nature of addiction and hitting bottom. With early intervention, it can also help with the approach of drug rehabs and recovery programs. It lessens the sting of withdrawal problems and craving impulses.

2. The alcoholic/addict has got to want treatment for it to work. Rarely is this the case. Most addicts and alcoholics will go to great lengths to continue using or drinking, and it takes some sort of force to get them into an alcohol treatment or drug rehab program. Either they are having problems at work, or home, or even have gotten into legal troubles. Involuntary or forced enrollment into an addiction treatment program is how many discover recovery. It is then the part of the drug rehab and addiction treatment provider to get the alcoholic/addict engaged into recovery and discovering things about their addiction problem.

Addiction is treatable. There are many programs, services, fellowships and professionals that are available to help with this debilitating brain disease. Offered is professional care, cutting edge therapies and a supportive environment for dealing with the struggles. We encourage you to seek out help for the individual in your life who is struggling. This help starts through overcoming these misconceptions. In most cases, it is a problem that won’t go away on its own.

Rises in Admissions for Treatment and Drug Rehab

Thursday, December 30th, 2010

Items of Addiction and Substance AbusePrior to the Christmas holiday, The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) released their report on admissions into substance abuse and addiction treatment programs. The general number of admissions is about 770 people per 100,000 admit to treatment from an alcohol or drug rehab. This study showed the trends from the years 1998 to 2008. The interesting aspect of the report is the dynamic change in the drugs of abuse that individuals are seeking treatment for. In many parts of the country alcohol treatment admissions are down as far as 15%. However, the number of admissions into treatment and drug rehab for illicit substances and prescription medications has greatly increased.

In July of this year, SAMHSA released a report relating to admissions for treatment for pain relievers. It noted from 1998 to 2008 the percentage of admissions for prescription drug addiction has risen 345%. This increase has occurred in all areas of the nation. Another increased number of admissions are found with those seeking help for marijuana addiction and abuse, which rose 30% nationally. Other drugs like methamphetamine hit a spike in 2005, but have been on the decline in recent years. Cocaine admissions continue to decline noting a 23% reduction. Heroin admissions are more regionally concerning, with parts of the country showing an increase of those seeking treatment for their addictions to that drug. This comes even with heroin being on a 3% decline nationally.

Although these numbers show the trends of individuals entering treatment and drug rehab for their struggles with alcoholism and drug addiction, there are still many who struggle who are not seeking care. If you have a loved one who is struggling with substance abuse or addiction, get them the help they stand in need of. Such treatment can be a life saving measure. Cirque Lodge is here to help. Time within our private alcohol treatment and drug rehab facility can provide the care and programs needed to arrest the disease of addiction. SAMHSA Admissions Release

Dual Diagnosis Care in Addiction Treatment

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

Dual Diagnosis Drug RehabCirque Lodge offers dual diagnosis care to the residents of our addiction treatment facility. Dual diagnosis is used to treat those who are struggling with co-occurring mood or eating disorders. A common problem that comes with alcoholism or drug addiction is comorbidity. This is the term given to individuals who are dealing with alcoholism or drug addiction and mental illness in some capacity. A dual diagnosis program provides care for both of the co-occurring issues. Drug rehab helps to arrest the disease of addiction. Treatment and therapy is also personalized to treat the psychiatric disorders as well.

It is roughly estimated that those who struggle with drug and alcohol addiction are twice as likely to develop and be diagnosed with a form of mood or mental disorder. The opposite is also true. It can be difficult to determine which the foundation of the problem is; whether it was the addiction, or the disorder. Years of substance abuse can create symptoms of disorders over time. Similarly, the individual can turn to self-medication as a means to suppress the struggles and feelings of a mood disorder. This abuse can develop into an addiction over time. At Cirque Lodge, a personalized addiction treatment program is created to properly diagnose the nature of the disorder. A program is also implemented to put the disease of addiction into remission.

This can be advantageous to the resident who is unaware they have such a condition. Years of alcohol abuse and drug addiction can suppress the feelings of a disorder. After detoxing and beginning the drug rehab program, the resident can experience anxiety or depression from no longer having drugs in their system. This can be a symptom of addiction withdrawal, or an undiagnosed psychiatric condition. Dual diagnosis care in addiction treatment can provide a program that determines and treats such things with a therapeutic and caring approach.

Prescription Pill Addiction Treatment

Friday, September 17th, 2010

At Cirque Lodge, we have seen an ever growing number of cases for individuals who are struggling with chemical dependency to prescription pills. There are a wide variety of prescription medications that can be habit forming and addictive. Usually the culprits are the painkillers that are talked about on the news; things like Percocet, Vicodin and OxyContin. But these are not the only habit forming pills. Many medications intended to treat people have also shown to be rather addictive. A growing number of individuals are also developing dependencies to sleep aids and medications intended to treat stress and anxiety.

Drug rehab for prescription pills at Cirque Lodge begins with the needs of the individual. A proper diagnosis is made on their condition. This is coupled with intensive cognitive and behavioral therapies. Our intention is to first arrest the disease. This is followed by programs and activities that teach needed skills for the recovery process. Some medications are prescribed to treat a co-occurring condition like depression or anxiety problems. To these individuals, Cirque offers a dual diagnosis treatment. It is a drug rehab program to assist with chemical dependency, coupled with therapies to address the co-occurring disorder.

After drug rehab is completed, a Continuing Plan of action is implemented for the recovery process. This plan consists of whatever additional care, sober living, and recovery programs that are needed to maintain a successful sobriety. These efforts are coordinated prior to leaving the treatment facility. Prescription pill addiction is on the rise. For those who have developed an addiction to these medications, there is help. Cirque Lodge offers a caring recovery program with an individualized approach to this specific form of addiction.

Addiction Treatment at Lodge and Studio

Friday, August 27th, 2010

Cirque Lodge has two facilities for treating alcoholism and drug addiction. The Lodge itself is a private mountain retreat at Sundance Utah. The Studio is a 100,000 sq. ft. facility a short drive away. Multiple facilities allow the Cirque Lodge drug rehab program to treat a larger dynamic of those in need of addiction recovery. Both facilities offer the very same addiction treatment program, experiential activities and confidential treatment experience.

The Lodge is a limited enrollment drug rehab facility. It has the feel of a luxurious mountain retreat. The facility itself offers very comfortable accommodations and relaxation amenities. There are also a number of counseling offices and venues for different therapy programs. The Lodge is quite private and exclusive. It is oftentimes the destination for high profile clients who are seeking a confidential addiction treatment program. The Lodge is surrounded by beautiful mountain views and large windows allow clients to take in the serenity.

Due to the success of the Cirque Lodge drug rehab program, a second facility was incorporated to treat a greater number of patients. The Studio, in Orem Utah, gets its name from being a TV and movie studio many years ago. A renovation to the facility made it ideal as an addiction treatment center. The Studio offers treatment to a greater number of residents. It is the home to the administrative offices of Cirque Lodge and hosts many local 12-step programs. The unique aspect of the Studio is its massive size. It is the venue for a number of experiential activities, including an indoor ropes course, in and outdoor equine venues, and also the launching pad for the Cirque Lodge helicopter. Residents of the Studio are also provided very high levels of privacy, world class accommodations and the most effective approach to alcohol and drug addiction treatment.
