Addiction and Recovery Help for the Family

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011

Addiction and Recovery Help for the FamilyFamily members can also be deeply affected by a loved one’s drug abuse or alcoholism. The erratic behavior of the individual, the blaming and problems can negatively impact loved ones. When the alcoholic/addict goes to treatment this can be a means to helping them, but the family members can still be struggling and in need of help for their problems. A part of alcohol and drug rehab at the Cirque Lodge facility is a family program. Residents of the Cirque addiction treatment facilities can invite their family members to come and participate in a week of workshops and programs geared to help them.

Family program at Cirque Lodge is such an integral part of alcohol and drug rehab treatment. It is scheduled every three weeks to allow each resident and family a chance to attend and be involved. Family members can have a number of questions and concerns when it comes to a loved one’s alcohol or drug abuse. The week of programs consists of workshops and a number of lectures to both educate and help the family members and loved ones in treatment. Special sessions are also scheduled with counselors to allow the family a chance to address aspects of life and recovery where there may be concerns. Time is also scheduled for family members to participate in an experiential activity or two.

Overcoming drugs or alcoholism is a process. It takes time and recovery. For many overcoming addiction, fellowship and support can play a central piece. After alcohol or drug rehab is completed, many individuals find long term sobriety through the community of a 12-step program or similar recovery effort. Family members also have programs in place to assist them. Alanon/Alateen is such a support group for the loved ones of Alcoholics. Codependents Anonymous (CoDA) can also provide a place for support and a program for family members of alcoholics or addicts. With the help of such programs and the Cirque Lodge family program, loved ones of alcoholics and addicts can better understand their role and how to make their home one that is conducive to recovery.

Recovery Workshops and Education in Drug Rehab

Wednesday, December 7th, 2011

A Drug Rehab WorkshopPart of the addiction treatment process at the Cirque Lodge involves education. The struggling alcoholic or drug addict is not aware of what they are doing to themselves and others. Alcohol and drug rehab treatment involves workshops, lectures and activities that instruct more about the nature of addiction, the behavioral struggles of chemical dependency and the recovery process. Cirque Lodge staff, caring professionals and members of the recovery community supply this education to clients during their treatment stay.

As a 12-step based alcohol and drug rehab, help and workshops are provided to instill the foundations of recovery in clients. This combined with the efforts of attending 12-step meetings and even with working with a temporary sponsor while they are here at the Cirque. Of course, the efforts of education are coupled with the very finest addiction treatment aspects, experiential programming and cognitive and behavioral therapies.

During Family program workshops also play an important role in helping family members understand addiction. A respected visiting professional in the recovery community, Dr. Kevin McCauley supplies a lecture on the disease concept of addiction. In this lecture, a much closer look is taken at the brain function, how it is affected by substance abuse and the resulting behaviors of addiction. This is quite instructional for not just the family members who attend, but also the Cirque Lodge resident participating. It is our hope that the information supplied in these lectures and workshops are utilized as a part of long term and successful recovery.

Establishing Boundaries for Recovery from Addiction

Monday, December 5th, 2011

Establishing Boundaries in Drug RehabAlcohol and drug rehab tends to be structured for those in need of treatment. This structure is multipurpose in its effort. Part of the structure is to help with daily practices that are tools to staying sober. The other part of the structure is to establish boundaries and responsibilities with the individual. In the struggles of alcoholism and seeking and using drugs, boundaries can be destroyed. In an addiction treatment environment establishing such boundaries can be a central piece to the individual and family members establishing boundaries within their recovery process.

Cirque Lodge residents work personally throughout their treatment stay with a primary counselor that helps with establishing such boundaries and responsibilities with clients. When family members come to Family Week, they are educated with workshops on the dangers of codependent relationships and what it can take to establish such boundaries within the home. Such accountability can be a foundational part of getting and remaining sober.

Extending the Alcohol Drug Rehab StayResidential treatment for alcohol or drug addiction can vary in length of stay. At the Cirque Lodge, it begins with a 30-day alcohol or drug rehab treatment, which can be extended with for a time based upon the individual’s need for care. Studies have shown that a lengthier addiction treatment stay has better outcomes. It gives the individual more time being in recovery and away from the influences of their drug or drink of choice. Many treatment providers have changed their programming to that of a 90-day program. At the Cirque, this decision is left up to the resident and their families. For those in need of a furthering alcohol or drug rehab program an extended care is available.

Extended care continues to provide the proper levels of treatment for residents and the support of a private recovery facility. The resident continues to work on regular basis with a primary counselor as the efforts of 12-step programming are continued through further involvement in the recovery community and with a temporary addiction sponsor. The initial time in alcohol or drug rehab can be used to establish the individual in paths of recovery by working on the first 1-3 steps of the program. Extended care at the Cirque Lodge looks to carry on with that effort by moving on with the steps. A supportive and treatment type environment can be quite helpful in tackling the personal inventory aspects of the recovery program.

Whether it is a 30 days or longer stay, the client of Cirque Lodge is also provided with a plan to continue care after they leave the alcohol or drug rehab facility. A Continuing Care Plan is developed to further the efforts of recovery into the residents own personal community. This can involve continuing work with an addiction therapist, a sober living/halfway house or an outpatient provider. It is intended to help the individual to continually make steps of progress towards successful long term recovery.

Establishing Honest Communication

Friday, November 4th, 2011

Communication in Family GroupThere are several aspects of drug and alcohol treatment. Many of these approaches require the alcoholic/addict to take an internal look inside. All the drama and struggles that accompany seeking and abusing substances can create a very problematic issue with relationships, self-esteem, and reality. Part of therapy and treatment is to get the individual to open up about these problems in lines of communication. The ability to communicate is an essential piece to working the program and staying sober. Many of the positive tools in recovery and support are founded on such lines of communication.

Coupled in with communication is a foundation of honesty. The alcoholic/addict has got to be able to be honest with others and more importantly themselves for recovery to work. Honesty is a foundation to the program. In drug rehab it begins with being honest with a counselor/therapist. When treatment is completed such lines of honest communication are found between the individual and the sponsor. It is also essential that such communication be established within the home and with loved ones.

Treatment and recovery from addiction is not an easy process. An essential part of this does rely upon a foundation of open and honest communication. At Cirque Lodge, a number of therapies, groups and experiential activities are provided to instill this in those seeking recovery from addiction. Instead of bottling up the struggles and repressive problems on life, the individual will be able to think, talk and feel their way through crisis situations. Cirque Lodge Family Week also allows residents and loved ones to open up and communicate with one another within a treatment setting. This can carry over to recovery after treatment is completed.

Dual Diagnosis in Drug Treatment

Thursday, October 27th, 2011

Dual Diganosis at Cirque LodgePeople struggling with alcohol or drugs can also be struggling with a number of other things. Family issues can have a hand in abusing substances. The alcoholic/addict can turn to self-medication as a means to numbing the pain and problems of a traumatic past or grieving. Others can self-medicate as a means to addressing a co-occurring problem with a mental health disorder. Co-occurring disorders and substance abuse go hand in hand. Many individuals who abuse alcohol and drugs can be diagnosed as having a co-occurring mental health problem created by extended abuse. Like-wise a mood disorder can contribute to the development of a chemical dependency.

Alcohol and drug treatment facilities have changed greatly in recent years. Facilities have had to alter programming to help those dealing with co-occurring mental health concerns. Facilities that offer treatment for both substance abuse and mental health problems are often referred to as co-occurring treatment or dual diagnosis programs. It used to be that an individual would need separate treatments for such issues, but program have been developed to arrest the disease of addiction. Mental health issues can also benefit from the behavioral health approaches of drug rehab, personalized therapies and the recovery oriented system of an addiction treatment program.

Cirque Lodge is a dual diagnosis facility in the mountains of Sundance Utah. Residents of our addiction treatment facilities are treated through a personalized alcohol and drug rehab program and with therapies and counseling for the needs of a mental health concern. Many times the alcoholic/addict is unaware they have mental health problems. The years of chemical dependency and substance abuse has helped to mask these issues. A personalized treatment and clinical care can help to provide program that offers dual diagnosis and treatments for substance abuse and also mental health concerns. This is offered to each and every resident of the Cirque Lodge facility.

Exercise in Rehab and Recovery

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

Exercise Cane Be a Positive in Addiction RecoveryExercise is considered a positive for many forms of health and life improvement programs. Recent studies have also shown many positives of exercise in conjunction with an addiction recovery program as well. Alcohol and drug rehab programs have followed suit by supplying exercise as an aspect to a residential treatment regimen. Physical activity can be a means to naturally reducing stress. It is prescribed to help those dealing with depression or anxiety; these are all common symptoms of the struggles of alcoholism or of drug addiction. It also allows the body to reward itself through natural means and not synthetic ones.

The residents of Cirque Lodge have many chances to get out and to exercise. Both facilities offer workout venues for clients. Yoga is utilized for both its spiritual and physical aspects at the Cirque. Our experiential program also allows residents to go biking, hiking and participate in climbing activities as well. The focus of the alcohol and drug rehab program at the Cirque Lodge is to provide recovery for the body, mind and spirit. The efforts of exercise and experiential activities within the program definitely assist in the body portion of recovery.

Exercise can also be a relapse prevention tool. One of the things taught in alcohol and drug rehab is to have daily activities that can keep an individual sober. Exercise can be one such activity. Many in recovery consistently attend classes in yoga to help themselves keep their lives, spirits and bodies in balance. The efforts of meditation learned through yoga can also be effectively used in centering each day on goals of sobriety. Exercise can also create a great sense of self-worth and esteem in the recovering addict who can be struggling with identity issues within themselves.

Aspects to Treatment and Therapy for Addiction

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

Fall Sceme Near Cirque LodgeNo single treatment has shown to be the effective piece to treating addiction for everyone. In most cases it requires many different styles of treatment and therapy to arrest the disease of addiction. At Cirque Lodge, we utilize a multidisciplinary approach to treating alcohol and drug addiction. This is done through individualized care, group therapies and an effective Family program. It is combined with the efforts of experiential therapy to provide hands on work with recovery and lessons for relapse prevention.

Alcohol and drug rehab begins with the individual at Cirque Lodge. The program is constructed to meet the client’s needs with personalized care from treatment professionals and counselors. Individual sessions with counselors and therapists are scheduled throughout the treatment stay to address the underlying concerns of addiction and to assist the individual with what they need to arrest their disease.

Coupled into the individualized effort are a number of group programs, workshops and the 12-step program. The group effort and working with staff in recovery is ideal for support. When clients are introduced to the 12-steps and become comfortable with them, they can attend locally hosted 12-step meetings for additional support. Workshops help to educate the individual on the nature of alcoholism and drug addiction and life in recovery. Time is also allotted every day for clients to be involved with the many different activities of our experiential program. This unique approach to addiction treatment helps individuals to apply the lessons of recovery and more importantly to have vital spiritual experiences.

Another powerful piece to the Cirque Lodge program involves the family. Family Week takes place every three weeks at the Cirque. It gives residents a chance to invite their loved ones to participate in week of family and recovery oriented workshops and programs. Family members can develop a lot by attending this week of programming. They can receive a needed education on the exact nature of what their addicted loved one is experiencing with alcohol or drug problems. The Family program also helps to prepare those involved for their role in the recovery process and about the support that can be found through programs like Al-anon for dealing with a loved one with a drinking problem.
