Establishing Honest Communication

Friday, November 4th, 2011

Communication in Family GroupThere are several aspects of drug and alcohol treatment. Many of these approaches require the alcoholic/addict to take an internal look inside. All the drama and struggles that accompany seeking and abusing substances can create a very problematic issue with relationships, self-esteem, and reality. Part of therapy and treatment is to get the individual to open up about these problems in lines of communication. The ability to communicate is an essential piece to working the program and staying sober. Many of the positive tools in recovery and support are founded on such lines of communication.

Coupled in with communication is a foundation of honesty. The alcoholic/addict has got to be able to be honest with others and more importantly themselves for recovery to work. Honesty is a foundation to the program. In drug rehab it begins with being honest with a counselor/therapist. When treatment is completed such lines of honest communication are found between the individual and the sponsor. It is also essential that such communication be established within the home and with loved ones.

Treatment and recovery from addiction is not an easy process. An essential part of this does rely upon a foundation of open and honest communication. At Cirque Lodge, a number of therapies, groups and experiential activities are provided to instill this in those seeking recovery from addiction.
