Establishing Honest Communication
Friday, November 4th, 2011
There are several aspects of drug and alcohol treatment. Many of these approaches require the alcoholic/addict to take an internal look inside. All the drama and struggles that accompany seeking and abusing substances can create a very problematic issue with relationships, self-esteem, and reality. Part of therapy and treatment is to get the individual to open up about these problems in lines of communication. The ability to communicate is an essential piece to working the program and staying sober. Many of the positive tools in recovery and support are founded on such lines of communication.
Coupled in with communication is a foundation of honesty. The alcoholic/addict has got to be able to be honest with others and more importantly themselves for recovery to work. Honesty is a foundation to the program. In drug rehab it begins with being honest with a counselor/therapist. When treatment is completed such lines of honest communication are found between the individual and the sponsor. It is also essential that such communication be established within the home and with loved ones.
Treatment and recovery from addiction is not an easy process. An essential part of this does rely upon a foundation of open and honest communication. At Cirque Lodge, a number of therapies, groups and experiential activities are provided to instill this in those seeking recovery from addiction. Instead of bottling up the struggles and repressive problems on life, the individual will be able to think, talk and feel their way through crisis situations. Cirque Lodge Family Week also allows residents and loved ones to open up and communicate with one another within a treatment setting. This can carry over to recovery after treatment is completed.

People struggling with alcohol or drugs can also be struggling with a number of other things. Family issues can have a hand in abusing substances. The alcoholic/addict can turn to self-medication as a means to numbing the pain and problems of a traumatic past or grieving. Others can self-medicate as a means to addressing a co-occurring problem with a mental health disorder. Co-occurring disorders and substance abuse go hand in hand. Many individuals who abuse alcohol and drugs can be diagnosed as having a co-occurring mental health problem created by extended abuse. Like-wise a mood disorder can contribute to the development of a chemical dependency.
Exercise is considered a positive for many forms of health and life improvement programs. Recent studies have also shown many positives of exercise in conjunction with an addiction recovery program as well. Alcohol and drug rehab programs have followed suit by supplying exercise as an aspect to a residential treatment regimen. Physical activity can be a means to naturally reducing stress. It is prescribed to help those dealing with depression or anxiety; these are all common symptoms of the struggles of alcoholism or of drug addiction. It also allows the body to reward itself through natural means and not synthetic ones.
No single treatment has shown to be the effective piece to treating addiction for everyone. In most cases it requires many different styles of treatment and therapy to arrest the disease of addiction. At Cirque Lodge, we utilize a multidisciplinary approach to treating alcohol and drug addiction. This is done through individualized care, group therapies and an effective Family program. It is combined with the efforts of experiential therapy to provide hands on work with recovery and lessons for relapse prevention.
Family members can play an integral role in a loved one’s recovery from alcoholism or drug abuse. A supportive and healthy home environment can be foundational in continuing the 12-steps and involvement in recovery. Family members may not be aware of their role and unhealthy behaviors in the home can be a negative or enabling factor. Part of the alcohol and drug rehab program at Cirque Lodge is our Family Week. Family Week contains a number of workshops and lectures that help to prepare the family member for their role in the recovery process.
Cirque Lodge consists of two alcohol and drug rehab treatment facilities in Utah. For many seeking the best in an addiction treatment facility, the Studio location provides them a place to recover. The Cirque Lodge Studio is a larger enrollment facility in Orem Utah and houses a greater number of individuals struggling with alcoholism or drugs. It receives its name from formerly being a television and movie studio. Renovations and expansion have created an ideal environment for treating the disease of addiction. This massive 100,000 sq. foot building hosts local 12-step meetings, the Cirque Lodge family program, and is the offices for Cirque’s day-to-day operations.
Drug rehab at Cirque Lodge is recovery for the mind, spirit and the body. The behaviors and struggles of seeking and using drugs can have negative impacts on an individual’s physical well-being. Some drugs of abuse can suppress appetites. Alcoholism can lead to diabetes. An alcoholic/addict can neglect the physical needs of the body in the pursuit of the next high. Cirque Lodge offers residents an active alcohol and drug rehab program. Activities and exercise are provided in many forms that can help with physical recovery from addiction. These are offered according to the individuals own level of physical ability, which has been shown to improve over the time of their drug rehab stay in many cases.
An alcohol and drug rehab stay consists of many things. What people will typically think of with rehab is the therapy, the 12-step meetings, or even the detoxing period that begins treatment. A big part of the addiction treatment regimen is educating the addict/alcoholic on the nature of addiction, the behaviors that can result, and what it takes to properly recovery. In the habits of seeking and using drugs or alcohol, the individual is probably not aware much why they are doing to their bodies or mind. At the Cirque Lodge, a number of workshops, lectures and experiential activities are used to teach the individual about the struggles of addiction and behavioral health.
Cirque Lodge offers a private place to recover from the struggles of substance abuse and co-occurring dual diagnosis issues. Individuals who have loved ones dealing with alcohol problems or drug addiction can be faced with difficult decisions. They may want to help their relative or friend with these problems, but may not know where to turn. Some may even turn to enabling as a means of helping their loved one, only to compounding the problem at hand. Help for alcoholism and drugs can begin with just a phone call. There are programs and people available to help those struggling. An intervention, an invite to a recovery meeting, or even the care of a drug rehab facility is all just a call away.
