Recovery through Self-Care

Thursday, December 29th, 2011

Recovery through Self-CarePart of the alcohol and drug treatment program at Cirque Lodge is to teach the alcoholic or addict how to apply self-care in their lives. Within the recovery process, there are a number of daily routines or practices that are a means to self-care and relapse prevention. These practices can be a means to staying focused on sobriety. One such aspect of self-care taught at Cirque Lodge is to take time each morning and plan out the day. This can involve inspirational reading, meditation and preparation for what the oncoming day is to bring. Below are aspects or things that can help with self-care for body, mind and spirit.

Body – Exercise has a number of advantages as well as a proper diet. It keeps the individual healthy and the body producing natural rewards. Exercise can also be an effective form of self-care for recovery from alcohol or drug addiction. Research and studies are currently being done on the positives of an exercise program for those overcoming addiction. Taking time in recovery consistently to exercise can have a positive effect on the individual and can keep them focused on principles of recovery. At Cirque Lodge, exercise is a daily part of alcohol and drug treatment. It can develop into a daily practice and a means to self-care after treatment in the recovery process.

Mind – Self-care for the mind can consist on a number of things and for those overcoming addiction, such care can be an important part of the process. Meditation can play an important role in this. At the Cirque Lodge, part of alcohol and drug rehab is to teach the practice of meditation. Taking time to relax each day and to just focus on breathing can be a means to reducing stress and the troubles that are faced in recovery. Self-care for the mind can also involve being creative and utilizing one’s talents. In recovery, it can be beneficial to use talents as form of expression and a means to letting go the problems of the world.

Spirit – Spiritual self-care can come in many forms. It can be a religious experience and a matter of worship. It can also be a very personal and internal experience. But, a positive practice of spiritual self-care can be imperative in the recovery process. At the Cirque Lodge, nature is oftentimes tapped for its healing and spiritual qualities. Alcohol and drug treatment clients have opportunities throughout the year to get out onto the mountain and to experience its serenity. In recovery, residents can practice the same principles by going for a hike or a walk in a serene location. Such can be a means to keeping that focus and that connection to a power greater than one’s own.

Activity in a Drug Treatment Program

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

Outdoor Cirque Lodge ActivityActivity is a central aspect to the Cirque Lodge alcohol and drug treatment program. Rehab can consist of a number of things depending on the treatment facility. At the Cirque, it involves a number of therapeutic elements and also a number of activities that help promote physical recovery from addiction. A lesson on helping one’s self or connecting to a higher power can be coupled with a bike ride or a hike into the private surround of the mountains, which supplies exercise. A regular exercise effort can be used as a relapse prevention tool.

Those in alcohol and drug rehab at Cirque Lodge have plenty of opportunities to exercise if they wish. During free time, clients can exercise at the facility (Studio clients can exercise at a local health club). Aspects of exercise, yoga and working with a trainer are also offered to residents as an experiential piece to the Cirque Lodge program. Many aspects of experiential therapy allow clients to get exercise through engaging activities. We take advantage of the many mountain trails and venues of the mountains as places for these activities. They are coupled with lessons of recovery and making connections to a higher power.

Part of the alcohol and drug treatment effort of Cirque Lodge is to provide clients with an arsenal of relapse prevention tools or skills. Some of these skills involve daily practices that help an individual focus on their recovery effort. One such practice can be the involvement of exercise. Exercise focuses on physical wellness which is similar to the focus of recovery wellness. It can also help to keep the focus maintained on the body, mind and spirit in the recovery process. Through exercise, the body also produces its own rewards for the individual which can replace the synthetic rewards supplied by substances.

Following a Drug Treatment Process

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

Drug treatment follows a process to help individuals with a continuum of care. Treatment at Cirque Lodge is tailored to meet the needs of the individual throughout the process, but basic aspects of treatment are covered in three areas. First is through detoxification, secondly through addiction treatment, and finally a continuing aftercare plan to further the efforts of long term recovery.

Detoxification – Drugs of abuse can have adverse effects when the addict halts use. Depending on the length and severity of the abuse, these withdrawal effects can be quite severe. Detoxification is the process of treating the individual for these withdrawal symptoms, while the drugs of abuse run their course through the body’s system. For most individuals entering into an alcohol or drug rehab program, detox will begin the treatment aspect of the program. Cirque Lodge is partnered with local facilities that supply medical detoxification services for the individual before they receive therapy and drug treatment. Upon completion of detoxification, a Cirque Lodge vehicle will provide transportation to one of our alcohol or drug rehab facilities.

Treatment – Treatment for drug addiction covers many areas of need depending on the alcohol or drug rehab facility. Cirque Lodge utilizes a multidisciplinary approach to treat the disease of addiction that consists of educational, therapeutic, family and experiential aspects. At the heart of this drug rehab program is the needs of the individual. Drug treatment at the Cirque is founded on the modality of the 12-step program and the traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous. The unique and engaging experience of the Cirque Lodge program also plays a large role in individuals healing and developing the needed skills for sustained sobriety.

Continued Care – Overcoming the struggles of alcohol and drug addiction is a long term process. While treatment provides needed care for the individual, it can still take time and a great deal personal effort to overcome. There is additional help and support available for those in recovery. When treatment at the Cirque is completed, a Continuing Care Plan is developed to continue with aftercare and support programs. The foundation of the 12-step program is continued with involvement in the recovery community. Aftercare can also involve additional therapy, sober living environments and outpatient types of programs. Cirque Lodge residents can also take advantage of the Guesting Privilege, a lifetime privilege allowing former clients to return for a few days of additional treatment and care when needed.

Alcohol/Drug Treatment – Personalized Care

Friday, April 1st, 2011

Personalized Alcohol/Drug TreatmentThe alcohol or drug rehab treatment of an addiction problem has come a long way in recent decades. Alcohol or drug treatment programs provide a more effective approach to recovery and many do this through personalized care. In treating chemical dependency, you are dealing with individuals. The approach to care for a businessman who is struggling with years of alcoholism may not be as effective for a college student who recently became addicted to painkillers. Personalized treatment helps to meet the needs of the alcoholic/addict on their level with what they stand in need of.

A personalized care approach to alcohol or drug rehab will usually begin with some form of assessment process. Clinical tests and professional inventories have been developed to determine the needs of the individual. Through the interview and assessment process treatment providers can gain a more professional understanding of the type of individual they are dealing with, strengths, weaknesses, a substance abuse history and also prior areas of medical or psychiatric concern. Dual diagnosis programs will also use the assessment process to address and diagnose any concerns involving co-occurring disorders (mental health disorders that co-occur with the substance abuse problem).

Personalized care also can mean individualized therapy and counseling. There are many factors, problems and issues that can have a heavy hand in the abuse of drugs or alcohol. Personal therapies provide an environment for working with a professional on these areas of trauma or struggle. Cognitive and behavioral therapy can be used to address the individual areas of struggle with impulse control and behaviors that can lead to self-medication. Many drug rehab providers offer family program as well. Counseling and family sessions are tailored to be sensitive to the needs of the family members involved and can be helpful in building support for the recovery process.

Aftercare programs are also tailored to meet the needs of the individual in many instances. Many of the leading alcohol and drug rehab providers offer help with continuing aftercare programs. These different services can be offered according to the needs of the individual. While some may only need 12-step meetings, others may require more intensive care or a transitional living environment (sober home) to help maintain a clean/sober lifestyle. A personalized approach to aftercare can get the alcoholic/addict into the appropriate programs which effectively address their needs. Alcohol and drug treatment providers can also offers follow-up services and alumni programs at different stages of the recovery process for the individual.

Aspects to a Drug Treatment Program

Aspects to Drug TreatmentEffective drug treatment can be a means to arresting the disease of addiction. When going through a drug rehab program or an outpatient treatment, a number of different therapies and recovery programs can be used to halt the using of drugs and introduce a means to sober living. This post discusses a few areas that can be emphasized with alcohol or with drug treatment. Most programs will in some manner provide these aspects of rehabilitation and care.

Education – A drug addict may not be fully aware of what substance abuse is doing to them. The damage that the substance of choice is causing is not as much a concern as obtaining and using the drug. Part of an alcohol or drug rehab experience will offer education and workshops. These teach about the nature of addiction, and also the science behind what substance abuse has done to the central nervous system. Education can come not only on a personal level, but some drug rehab providers will offer family and couples workshops as well. With this education, the addict can become more aware about this progressive disease and how it impacts self and others.

Therapy – Addiction treatment therapy can cover a broad variety of treatments. Individual therapies can be used to take a more personal look at the addiction struggle. Cognitive and behavioral therapies are utilized to address the addict’s behaviors and thought process; these are used in developing skills to assist with relapse prevention. Family therapies are used to offer healing within the family. There are group therapies that discuss alcoholism and drug addiction and help with building support. Cirque Lodge offers experiential therapy; with hands on approach to recovery. Therapy in a drug treatment setting is very broad and the approach to individual and therapy depends on the facility.

Co-occurring Disorders – Many individuals who struggle with substance abuse can also be struggling with a co-occurring mental health disorder. Drug treatment providers can offer dual diagnosis care, which focuses on treatment for both parts of a co-occurring problem. The assessment and diagnosis process can help in determining treatment plans for individuals who are unaware they have a mental health concern. Dual diagnosis treatment can consist of not only therapies but also with medications to properly treat the mental health disorder.

Recovery – Addiction is a chronic and progressive condition. Even after a drug treatment or rehabilitation stay, the addict can still face the impulses, cravings and triggers to use. Drug treatments will effort the individual into programs that help them continue on in recovery. The vast majority of drug rehab facilities are based on the 12-step approach and after completing treatment the person can become involved in meetings to continue their recovery. There are also programs and outpatient therapies available to assist in this process as well. Drug treatment and recovery services can offer a large battery of aftercare efforts to help the addict stay clean.

Drug Treatment and Dual Diagnosis

Monday, February 1st, 2010

There are many types of mood disorders. These psychiatric maladies can be a heavy influence in substance abuse and developing an addiction. To better address this in a drug treatment setting, facilities will provide a dual diagnosis treatment to individuals. Cirque Lodge functions as a dual diagnosis alcohol and drug rehab facility. A multidisciplinary team of professionals provide individuals with treatment that arrest the disease and provide therapy and support for the mood disorder.

Individuals can find the highs from addictive substances as a release from the problems of mood disorders. This can lead to self medication. The central nervous system that is affected by a mood disorder is more likely to develop an addiction. Now on top of the strugglers of a psychiatric condition, you are dealing with chemical dependency.

Some individuals are even unaware they have such a condition. The years of abusing alcohol or drugs has suppressed these feelings. Once in rehab, they can experience things like depression and anxiety. This can be due to withdrawal or could actually be a psychiatric condition. Proper and professional diagnosis can provide a recovery program that addresses both the issues at hand.

Prescription Drug Treatment Program

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

Prescription drugs for the right reasons can be a life saving measure.  The wrong reasons can lead to struggles with abuse and chemical dependency. The rate of individuals becoming addicted to their prescription medications is growing at an alarming rate. At Cirque Lodge, we have seen this increase in the individuals we treat with a caring drug rehab program. Even though they are prescribed by a professional, some drugs have narcotic affects on the central nervous system. Over time, these affects become the reason the pill is taken, opposed to the reason they were prescribed for.

Drug treatment is personalized at Cirque Lodge. We use a rigorous battery of tests and assessments to determine individual needs. We then tailor a program to meet these needs with the proper forms of care.  The dynamic of those we treat is varying. With prescription drug abuse, this dynamic is even broader. By tailoring the program, proper forms of drug rehab and care are implemented according to individual need, from professionals with experience and expertise. Cirque Lodge uses a unique balance of individual care, supportive group and family programs, and a daily balance of experiential learning exercises.

A controlled environment is ideal for getting off the prescriptions.  Within this safe haven, one can develop the skills and mindset needed for sobriety; while receiving proper forms of clinical therapy, and support programs. Not that many will face a struggle with an addiction to prescription drugs in their life. However, for those who do and will, a caring treatment program is available at the Cirque Lodge in Sundance Utah.

Help and Care with Prescription Drug Treatment

Monday, October 26th, 2009

The Struggles of Prescription Drug AbuseThe Cirque Lodge is here to help individuals in need of prescription drug treatment. In recent years addiction to prescription medication has alarmingly increased. At the Cirque, we have seen this increase in those we have treated. When we first opened our doors over a decade ago, the majority of those who came to alcohol and drug rehab had an alcohol problem. Many more can now be identified as having a prescription drug problem. The risk is that these medications are intended to help us. People are unaware of the dangers of the pill’s addictiveness, or do they see a habit forming before it’s too late.

Help and care with prescription drug treatment at Cirque Lodge begins with a personalized effort. We strive to help each individual on the level they require. Caring staff members are always available to help and to address concerns.
Time here in the mountains can be a means to ending the prescription drug abuse problem. The 12-step program is introduced to provide additional help, care and support for the recovery process.

The scare with the increase in prescription drug cases is the increase in overdoses and death. Don’t let this happen to your loved one. Time in a drug rehab facility can be a means getting their life back on track. Therapy and care can put the disease into remission. Recovery programs can show the individual ways to keep it their.

A Nice Facility for Drug Treatment

Luxury Drug Treatment Facility at Cirque Lodge

A piece to alcohol and drug rehab at Cirque Lodge is that the facility is nice. We strive to provide our residents with the highest levels of privacy and luxury during their drug treatment stay. Accommodations, amenities and the culinary experience reflect the feel of a world class retreat. The difference, this retreat is used to rehabilitate and provide recovery for the alcoholic/addict. All in all the niceness of the facility is simply a part to the overall treatment experiences here in the mountains of Sundance Utah.

Luxury in drug treatment helps to clear up misconceptions that the addict might have regarding rehab. It eliminates the negatives that are built up in the addict’s minds that drug rehab is a form of punishment or an asylum. When they come to the mountains and get a feel for the place, the comfort begins to set in. This can help with the mindset needed for beginning and working the program.

Nice facilities also help in restoring dignity within the alcoholic/addict. Most times, their self esteem is shot, their mind is in chaos, and they can be searching for anything to help them. The drug rehab program shows them alternatives to the abuse of drugs or alcohol. All of this is performed with a caring environment, with luxury accommodations to enhance the drug treatment stay.
