Recovery from alcoholism or drug addiction can take time. After rehab is completed, the impulses to drink or to use are still ever present. It is how the recovering alcoholic/addict utilizes the things they developed in drug rehab that can help them obtain a long term and successful sobriety. The initial months after rehab is completed can be the most critical. The alcoholic/addict must always know they are never alone in their struggles. There are always people to help them. At Cirque Lodge, a plan of action is coordinated and provided to those who have graduated treatment.

There are many recovery elements available to those who have completed rehab and are working towards long term sobriety goals. A Continue Care Plan is created for the graduate of the Cirque Lodge program. This recovery plan consists of additional treatment and care programs available to the client. These efforts are coordinated prior to the resident leaving treatment and are based upon the programs available within the client’s home community. Some recovering individuals benefit from a transition period within a sober living environment, or working through an intensive outpatient program. These things are also coordinated and available after the individual is discharged from the Cirque.

Even with successful treatment and surrounding the individual with recovery programs, relapse is very much a reality. Cirque Lodge residents are granted a Guesting Privilege for dealing with relapse. Before taking that first drug or drink, the client can return to the facility and refocus on the recovery effort. This is a lifetime privilege for those who have remained sober. It is free of charge and offers additional programming and care as a form of relapse prevention. Recovery requires a plan. Residents of the Cirque benefit from an effective recovery plan and privileges that assist throughout the recovery process.

The Cirque Lodge Guesting Privilege is a relapse prevention tool provided alumni. This privilege allows graduates of the Cirque to return to the alcohol or drug rehab facility up to 96 hours for additional treatment and recovery help. For the individual who is facing the possibility of relapse, this privilege allows them to return and refocus their efforts on sober goals. It is lifetime privilege for the resident who has stayed clean and sober. The chance to return and refocus can be a helpful tool in dealing with the struggles of a new life in sobriety. From individuals who are pretty fresh out of rehab, to those who have been sober for a while, this privilege is available to help in time of need.

The Guesting Privilege is a great help for those who are struggling, but this privilege is available to all graduates of the Cirque Program. Many former residents use guesting as an opportunity to celebrate a mile stone in their sobriety, or simply as a chance to reconnect with the facility and staff. This privilege is free of charge to all alumni who have successfully completed treatment. Guesting is based on room availability and only those who have remained sober are entitled to this privilege.

Alumni of the Cirque Program who do not feel the need to Guest can take advantage of a lifetime Family Week privilege. Family Week takes place every three weeks and provides a number of different lectures, workshops and recovery based activities. Alumni can use this as a chance to reconnect with the serenity of the mountains and reeducate themselves. These privileges are just additional tools to help alumni as they work their recovery process. It can help them to reconnect to their higher power and recall the powerful experiences they had within this mountain based drug rehab program.

Recovery from alcoholism or drug addiction is a process and not an event. An individual must continue to work at their sobriety and manage their lives in a way that makes the lifestyle easier to maintain. There is help along the way for this process. It comes in many forms. Prior to leaving alcohol or drug rehab at Cirque Lodge, each resident works with the aftercare staff on a Continuing Care Plan. This is a plan of action for the recovery process. It provides a continuance of treatment and care and programming according to what the resident needs.

Central to this plan is continuing to work on the 12-steps of recovery. Cirque Lodge will coordinate with local recovery groups of a resident’s community and prepare the way for them to get involved in meetings. This includes working with sponsor and being a part of different group efforts. Some individuals can require a transition period before going back to their day-to-day lives. They may need a sober living environment or companion. Prior to leaving alcohol or drug rehab, these elements can be coordinated to make the transition simple. Additional therapy groups and personal therapies are also prescribed through a resident’s Continuing Care Plan when required.

The Continuing Care Plan is solid measure of relapse prevention. However, it is still voluntary and up to the individual whether they take part in this recovery effort. Members of the Cirque Staff and counselors will provide follow-up services with former clients to see if there is anything else that is needed to help with the recovery process. In time, and with a personal sacrifice, the choice of sobriety can become second nature. The recovered alcoholic/addict can then continue to work their 12-step process by assisting others to achieve the same.

The Cirque’s unique location provides a lot of things. The mountains provide privacy for those in alcohol and drug rehab. They provide a venue for recovery activities. They also offer a majestic place for healing and spiritual connections. Residents of the Cirque Lodge have many chances to get out onto the mountain in many different ways. Each excursion can provide a different activity for learning and connecting to one’s higher power. Nature can help with healing. A recovery activity in the mountain can help to drive home the points of the alcohol and drug rehab experience.

Mountain activities provide residents of Cirque Lodge a chance to experience this beautiful area on a first hand basis. The mountains, meadows, waterfalls and quiet places can be venues for addiction recovery. Unique activities are provided to get to these venues. It can be the destination of a hike, a river ride, by mountain biking, or even by a trip in a private helicopter. These places are capped off with lessons from the Big Book and chances to share recovery experiences. These mountain excursions have shown to be profoundly powerful to Cirque residents. It provides a completely different perspective for self discovery and enlightenment for the recovery process.

Residents in drug rehab begin to work the recovery process and the 12-steps at Cirque Lodge. As they begin to make progress, they are allowed to attend outside 12-step meetings, while still living within the safety of the Cirque Facility. A part of attending these meetings is working with a sponsor. A temporary sponsor is assigned while the client is in drug rehab. After rehab is completed, and the resident returns to their own community, a local 12-step fellowship will provide a sponsor.

A sponsor provides a personal one-on-one support group for the individual in recovery. Sponsors are individuals who have found their own successful recovery. They have dedicated a portion of their lives to helping other achieve the same (The 12th step). Working with a sponsor can help to ease the burdens of social situations and in dealing with the possibility with relapse. They are a positive example of sober living and can be a needed crutch along the way.

Sponsors are also a means to continuing the 12-step program. After an individual leaves rehab, it is up to that person to continue the recovery process. However, involvement with 12-step meetings and a sponsor can provide a foundation for continuing on. A sponsor can help with the difficult steps of recovery and maintaining a connection to a higher power. This is not an easy process. Help along the way can make all the difference in successful long term goals of sobriety. A caring sponsor can be a means to helping the alcoholic/addict achieve this. In time, the recovering individual can in turn sponsor others to this same long term goal.

Just shortly before leaving alcohol or drug rehab at Cirque Lodge, a client begins to make preparations for the recovery process. The aftercare department works with the client in preparing a Continuing Care Plan. This is the plan of action for recovery. It involves additional programs, therapy and sober elements to help during the initial months after rehab. There are many forms of programs and recovery efforts available. Aftercare helps clients to find programs that are close to home that can help them with relapse prevention.

Many clients choose to stay local and remain close to the Cirque Lodge facility. The Studio hosts a number of outside 12-step meetings and even an aftercare meeting each week. Cirque Lodge associates with a number of local sober living houses and recovery programs. Aftercare works with each client in making the right decisions in continuing recovery efforts close to Cirque Lodge.

Central to all of this is continuing the work of the 12-step program. Alcohol and drug rehab begins the process of recovery. It is the efforts of the individual in working the 12-steps that helps them find a lasting sobriety. The Continuing Care Plan also stresses an active involvement in a 12-step fellowship. Aftercare works with each client in finding the 12-step groups within their communities prior to leaving rehab. The initial months of recovery can be the most critical. Following the Continuing Care Plan can be an influential piece to relapse prevention.

A helpful thing to have through the recovery process is an influential example. For those in drug rehab, that example can come from a counselor/therapist or a fellow individual in recovery. At Cirque Lodge, residents can find the example of successful recovery from many members of staff. This positive influence can be used as a strategy for the struggles of overcoming the influences of alcoholism or addiction. One can look back at their time in rehab at that example and follow in that path.

After alcohol or drug rehab is completed, an influential person can be found in a 12-step fellowship, most importantly a sponsor. Sponsors are a great example of successful recovery, and both (individual and sponsor) benefit and grow from working with each other. The positive recovery influence of a sponsor can keep that individual focused on sober goals and making the steps towards a vital spiritual experience.

Family members can also be a positive example for the recovery process. Cirque Lodge offers a family program to better educate members of the family on how to be this positive influence. Attending Alanon meetings can also be a positive example for family members working with a loved one in recovery. Individuals who have had years of recovery can still remember those who were positive examples that helped them along the way. This can be a person from their drug rehab program, or someone influential who helped them obtain that successful recovery.

Part of the Cirque Lodge is spiritual recovery. In our alcohol and drug rehab, spiritual recovery is left up to the individual and many concepts are used in teaching this. Spiritual recovery is not always intended to be a ‘religious’ experience. As said before, we use a number of concepts. Within the Cirque Lodge facility is a Native American teepee and we use concepts of Native American culture in teaching individuals about spirituality. This is coupled with the highly effective elements of 12-step recovery.

One of these unique elements is a drum circle. Cirque Lodge has a number of different Native American style drums they use in this activity. A visiting professional takes residents on a journey through the legends of Native American tribes. Stories are shared and experiences are gained as residents learn things they never knew possible. These things can help them with healing. They also have a lot of fun banging on drums.

The Native Americans of this region called this land Timpanogos (the same name as the mountain that looms over Cirque Lodges alcohol and drug rehab facilities). It was considered a holy place of healing. For those who are suffering from alcoholism or drug addiction this can also be a place of healing. Time in the Cirque Lodge can provide a spiritually rejuvenating recovery experience.

Recovery is a process, not an event. Even with the help and support of an alcohol or drug rehab program, the impulses to use or to drink must continually be managed throughout life. Cirque Lodge helps residents as they embark on recovery outside of the safety of the addiction treatment center. We work with residents in creating plan for aftercare. The Continuing Care Plan consists of additional outpatient programs and therapy to assist in the recovery process.

There are many forms of outpatient care that are available for individuals leaving alcohol or drug rehab. These elements can help with additional treatment and also help with reintegrating into society as a sober person. Residents work with our aftercare staff and their primary counselor in researching and developing a plan for continuing care. For some this is in the form of intensive outpatient care. Others may enroll in a sober living environment for the months following rehab. Therapy programs and support groups are also provided with aftercare and the Continuing Care Plan.

Central to the plan is continued involvement in 12-step meetings and working with a fellowship and a sponsor. There are many different types of 12-step groups out there, and part of aftercare is to research the best recovery groups for residents. There are even specific 12-step groups based on lifestyle, religion, and specific drug types. This all goes into preparing the plan for recovery for residents. Recovery is a process it takes a lot of personal effort and changes. The Continuing Care Plan provides helps through this process after rehab is completed.
