Aftercare Workshop for Family

Friday, March 5th, 2010

The final day of Family Week at Cirque Lodge begins with a workshop on aftercare.  Time spent in alcohol or drug rehab is just the beginning of a life of sober living. Initially, this can be a difficult process to start. The aftercare workshop helps the residents and their family to better understand continuing treatments and support for the recovery process.

There are many forms of aftercare that can benefit the alcoholic/addict in recovery. The key point being that the individual pursues these things after they leave the safety of the rehabilitation facility. Many individuals move into a secondary facility, like a halfway house or sober living home after treatment. Outpatient programs, therapists and support groups are also available to the recovering individual. Many find needed support through continuing the 12-step program through fellowships like Alcoholics Anonymous.

The aftercare lecture also addresses the family and the recovery programs that are available to them. Family works their own 12-step program as well. These individuals can find support through programs like Al-anon, which is a program geared specifically for family members and loved ones of alcoholics and addicts.  The family can work at recovery together with the help and support of such programs. It can make the home environment more conducive to the recovery process and the goals of a life long sobriety.

Help Your Loved One with Intervention

Friday, February 26th, 2010

Sometimes getting a loved one into a treatment program for alcohol or drug addiction is easier said than done. Alcoholics and addicts can go to extreme lengths to protect their using. The thought of rehab is met with a lot of resistance.  Planning an intervention can be an effective measure in addressing their loved ones issues and addiction problems. Cirque Lodge works with a number of leading intervention services.  It is recommended to use a professional interventionist in helping a loved one.

A professional intervention provides most of all experience. Most professionals have intervened on countless individuals with substance abuse problems. They have witnessed the many different reactions that can happen when an intervention is performed. Intervention also brings planning and is carried out with motivation and love. Individuals can share their feelings and fears when it comes to substance abuse and entering rehab.  Hopefully, the alcoholic/addict agrees to treatment after an intervention is performed. The use of an intervention service can greatly increase the chance of this happening.

Most intervention services also provide far more than just performing the intervention. According to individual needs, they can recommend an appropriate facility. Many provide monitoring for the family while their loved one is in alcohol or drug rehab. They also can provide therapy and aftercare services for individuals after they leave rehab. If someone in your life is struggling with alcoholism or drug addiction, intervention can provide a foundation for treatment and beginning the recovery process.

A Balance of Treatment in Drug Rehab

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Alcohol and drug rehab at Cirque Lodge is so many things, both common in addiction treatment and unique. It is based on the traditions of the 12-step program. Effective cognitive and behavioral treatments and therapies are used in helping individuals with addiction struggles. The experiential program provides a unique approach to learning skills for recovery. The focus of all of this is the needs of the individual. Each and every day provides a different experience and learning for long term sobriety.

On other days, residents can enjoy different unique elements to our program.  In the art room, they can learn the intricacies of pottery. Residents can spend free time working with a personal trainer and improving their health. Time is also given to residents out in nature for reflection and self meditation. Cirque Lodge is an experience.  It is our hope that the experience is one that creates an internal change and invokes a long term recovery. Each individual who comes to alcohol and drug rehab can require different forms of care. The balance of effective and unique elements at Cirque provides an arsenal of treatment and recovery options.

Teaching the Family about Codependency

Monday, February 8th, 2010

This week marks another Family Program at Cirque Lodge. Residents in alcohol and drug rehab are encouraged to invite family members and loved ones to participate in this program. A number of lectures and workshops are provided to better instruct loved ones on the nature of addiction and recovery. One thing that is addressed is the problems of codependency within the home. If there is an alcohol or drug addiction within the home, chances are there are codependent relationships.

Codependent behavior can be a fuel for enabling. It creates an unequal atmosphere within the home. It isn’t conducive to recovery. Part of Family Week is to better instruct individuals on the family system and on codependency. It shows family members a way to level out the environment of the home with responsibility and love. With codependency people have to take a side. They are either the controller, or the victim. Elements during Family Week help to educate individuals on these behaviors and find more effective ways for resolving them.

Extended Care in Alcohol or Drug Rehab

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

30 days in alcohol and drug rehab may not be enough time for some individuals. Some may benefit much more from a 60 or 90 day treatment plan. Extended care programs at Cirque Lodge are step forward and not a step back.  Personalized treatment is continually tailored to address individual needs, as the individual begins to on the additional steps of recovery. Extended care usually occurs at our Studio facility in Orem Utah, which is also home to a number of local 12-step meetings. A part of this care is to become involved with a 12-step fellowship and even work with a sponsor.

Many alcohol and drug rehab facilities have changed their curriculum to a 90-day program. Studies have shown that longer stays in rehab yield more successful results.  At Cirque, we still leave that up to the client and their families. However, our clinical staff and counselors are available to discuss extended treatment stays and can make professional recommendations for residents if needed.

When an extended care stay is completed, the resident is provided a Continuing plan for their recovery process. This plan consists of additional elements of outpatient help and recovery groups. Each resident can work with our aftercare staff in coming up with an effective plan for their recovery process. Cirque alumni are also given a lifetime privilege of guesting at the facility, when they need a little additional help for relapse prevention. For many individuals suffering from alcohol or drug addiction, the 30-day program is just not enough. At the Cirque, extended care and additional treatment is available.

Family Help and Treatment in Drug Rehab

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Every three weeks is designated for family work at Cirque Lodge. The alcoholic/addict is not the only one within the home who is struggling. The behavior of addiction can have negative influences on spouses, family and even children. The family program allows residents of Cirque Lodge to invite family to participate in recovery elements with them. Each day provides different programs groups, and even meals from our culinary staff. The family better understands their role and influence in the recovery process.

Therapies and groups help family members to better understand their loved ones condition. Lectures and workshops provide an education on nature of the disease of addiction. Other workshops address the family system and the influence of codependent relationships and addiction, and also the strength and support that comes from an involved aftercare program and long term sobriety efforts. A lot of times the family is unaware of the issues of addiction beyond the uncontrolled use of drugs and alcohol. This education and therapy can help to properly begin them on an effective path of recovery as a family unit.

Cirque Lodge wouldn’t be what it is without the use of experiential activities. They play a foundational part of our recovery program. During Family Week is no exception. The family has opportunities to learn from challenging ropes exercises, going for a river walk, and even experience the thrill of our giant swing. Members of our experiential team provide a safe and educational experience with these activities. Family members can gain some insight to the strength and lessons of our experiential piece of recovery.

Monday, December 14th, 2009

A lot of inpatient treatment centers have changed their rehab programs to address the problems of psychiatric disorders. A lot of those who suffer from alcoholism or drug addiction can also be diagnosed for have a co-occurring psychiatric condition, like depression or anxiety disorders. Cirque Lodge is what you call a dual diagnosis facility. We are committed to providing the finest levels of alcohol and drug rehab. However, we also offer a personalized program for individuals struggling with these disorders in addition to their addiction problems.

An effective assessment process and inventories are taken in determining individual needs at Cirque Lodge. Each resident meets regularly with our psychiatric professional in addressing elements of dual diagnosis. Throughout a clients stay at Cirque Lodge, treatment is continually tailored to help them with rehabilitation efforts and programs for a co-occurring problem.

Disorders like this and addiction go hand in hand. Sometimes, an addiction is developed as a result of complications with the disorder, or treatment medications. In other cases, individuals will turn to drinking or substances to address these behaviors and feelings they are struggling with. When diagnosed, these behaviors and feelings are the symptoms of a disorder. Recovery is needed for both conditions. At Cirque Lodge, we strive to provide just that with an effective and caring rehabilitation and recovery program.
