Continuing Steps to Recovery
When an individual comes for treatment they are introduced to the 12-step program. During this time, efforts are made to establish the initial steps of the 12-step model. These initial steps help the recovering addict/alcoholic realize that they have a problem, and connect with a power greater than their own. For individuals in need of a lengthier stay, additional steps are introduced.
12-step recovery is helpful after completing drug rehab. Continuing these steps after rehab provides structure for recovery. There are support networks and programs available virtually everywhere. Such support can be quite influential in specific times of need. When a person leaves rehab, they can be exposed to a lot of the old influences they struggle with. With 12-steps and influential support, these struggles can seem far less to those in recovery. The 12-steps begin in rehab. It is the loving support of 12-step groups out in the world that continue the success of recovery.
