Drug Rehab Workshop for the Family System
During Family Week at Cirque Lodge a number of workshops and drug rehab programs are used to help individuals and families. Today there is a workshop that focuses on the family system. This workshop allows the family member and the loved one in rehab a chance to express their deeper feelings and fears regarding the addiction struggle. Cirque Lodge counselors direct this workshop and use a number of visual tools to help individuals in addressing these struggles. The workshop provides different views about the behaviors and struggles of addiction. Family members have an opportunity to address their struggles. In turn, Cirque residents can also describe their struggles as well.
The family systems lecture helps to raise awareness and open the lines of communication. Family members can be unaware of how their behavior is affecting and even fueling the substance abuse. Likewise, the addict/alcoholic in drug rehab can see how their behaviors are affecting their loved ones. The systems lecture helps the family to break down the barriers, allowing them to openly talk, think and feel about their struggles.
This drug rehab workshop lays the groundwork for what happens next. The family is given an opportunity in specialized therapy sessions to openly talk, think and feel. These elements are directed by the resident’s primary counselor. Other counselors, residents and family members participate and offer needed support for this process group. This can be the first time that the family can discuss and prepare for the recovery process. It can be difficult, but also needed for having a positive environment within the home.
