Educating the Family on Addiction
Educating the family on the nature of addiction is needed for the recovery process. When a loved one has an alcohol or drug addiction, it can be a problem for the entire family. The addict alone isn’t the only one suffering. It can also greatly strain the relationships of those who are a part of that individual’s life. A part of addiction treatment is to help the family overcome some of their issues as well. In this way, they can be a needed support for their loved one. At Cirque Lodge, the family is a part of our drug rehab program.
Many misunderstandings can be had when it comes to addiction. These misunderstandings can lead to contention in the family unit. A part of the Cirque Lodge family program is to educate the family. Lectures are provided to help the family better understand the nature of addiction, as well as what their loved one is going through on a psychological, emotional, and spiritual level. Also discussed are the concepts of the disease of addiction. The hope is to clear up some of these misunderstandings and teach the family on what they can do to help.
The family also plays an integral role in the recovery process. Overcoming addiction takes some time and effort. It can be a little easier if there is the right support along the way. A prepared family can be a needed crutch for the addict in times of struggle. Part of what is covered in the Cirque Lodge family program is the need for continued care. When the family is a part of 12-step meetings and assisting in the recovery process, it can be influential in the success of the sobriety. For some, the family part of our drug rehab program is very tough at first, but ultimately has tremendous healing results.
