Experiential Program in Alcohol and Drug Treatment

A Therapeutic Mountain HikeThe drug rehab program at Cirque Lodge is an effective balance of therapies. A part of this balance is our experiential program. When the Lodge was originally developed, the idea was to use the mountain and nature as a part of the healing process. A few years later, the Studio became a second addiction treatment facility. This huge building provided additional indoor and outdoor venues for experiential activities. Now, experiential activities are a daily part of alcohol and drug treatment. These activities help to assist in the therapy portion of treatment, and enhance the healing and recovery process.

Experiential activities range in the type and purpose. They can be a simple nature hike, where clients can go off alone for a bit and think about things. They can be profound, like the therapeutic connection found with a horse in an equine activity. Some are meant to help with the 12-step program, by establishing a connection with a higher power. Others are meant to teach things like recovery skills, coping strategies, or invaluable lessons on the nature of alcohol and drug addiction.

These venues and activities help to make alcohol and drug treatment more fun, more enticing. Alcoholics and drug addicts can be looking for anyway to get out of the darkness. These activities can help them find something that they can enjoy. If it is something they can envision themselves doing after leaving the addiction treatment facility, it is something that can help them continue on the path to lasting sobriety. Experiential therapy activities can be a release for residents who are dealing with issues and addiction problems as well. After a particularly difficult therapy session, it can be therapeutic to get away from the facility and relax for a bit in the quiet of nature.
