Family Week at the Cirque Lodge Drug Rehab
An effective element to the alcohol and drug rehab program at Cirque Lodge is Family Week. The family program consists of treatment elements for the residents of the Lodge and Studio, and also their family members who attend. Each treatment day consists of different workshops, activities and therapies to address the struggles of addiction on a family level. Family Week occurs every three weeks of the alcohol and drug rehab program. This allows even residents with a short term treatment stay an opportunity to participate with their loved ones.
Different workshops are provided each day of the family program. A disease concept lecture provides family members a better understanding on the nature of addiction. This lecture provides a more medical look at the impact of alcoholism and drug addiction on the central nervous system. A Family systems lecture provides an in depth look at the enabling behaviors and codependency that can exist within the home. This lecture is followed by a process therapy to address these struggles. On the final day of Family Week, a workshop is provided that covers the importance of aftercare following treatment. These workshops better educate the family on their role in the recovery process.
Special family groups and therapy sessions are scheduled during this week as well. This provides family members with an environment for open and honest communication. It can give both the recovering addict/alcoholic and their family a venue for talking, thinking, feeling, and healing. Years of alcohol and drug abuse can build up barriers against communication like this. These sessions are directed by a licensed member of the Cirque Lodge treatment team, and can deal with some of the underlying struggles and problems in the home environment. For some, this may not be easy. In the long run, it can provide a foundation for a long term recovery process.
