Finding Support in Recovery
The process of recovery takes time and a lot of personal effort. It helps to have individuals along the way for support, just whenever they are needed. This can be a 12-step group, a sponsor, an addiction counselor, family or friends. Just someone who can help you when you are struggling and the impulse to use is strong.
During the initial days, weeks, and months of recovery support can be critical. That is why after someone leaves alcohol or drug rehab they are encouraged to find a support group to help them. This fellowship can provide the support and the focus for staying clean day after day. Now, support isn’t all that is needed, it still requires a lot of personal effort and sacrifice. However, support can make many of the burdens that come from addiction and withdrawals seem less. A lot of the difficulties we face in life can be made easier through a helping hand and a caring heart. For those who struggle with alcohol or drug addiction, there is an endless amount of support from those willing to help. All they need to do is ask.
