People suffering from alcohol and drug addiction can be struggling with a number of things. The trial and learning experiences of our equine program can be valuable lessons about the individual and what they need for recovery. It also helps the alcoholic/addict to make connections with another living creature.
Cirque Lodge residents gain exactly what they need from the horses. The exercise is similar, but it seems that each resident takes what they stand in need of from the exercise. Alcohol and drug rehab residents must learn to let go of their addictive mindsets and work on gaining the trust of the horse. In the life of the addict/alcoholic, trust has been destroyed on many levels. This simple practice of building trust with another living being can help them to make positive adjustments in their own lives. A connection with the horse can be a standard for growing in recovery.
