Using the River in Drug Rehab
The mountains surrounding Cirque Lodge provide a number of venues for our experiential program. One venue is the Provo River. This River is a well known fly fishing destination. For the residents of our alcohol and drug rehab program, the river is a place for enjoyment, healing and recovery. Experiential activities take advantage of this location. Cirque Lodge residents have a chance to hike along parts of the river, do a bit of fly fishing, and even raft the river. These activities not only make drug rehab more enjoyable, but also help to invoke vital spiritual experiences. Such experiences can create the internal shift needed to overcome addiction.
The experiential program is a profoundly powerful part to the Cirque Lodge recovery experience. These activities make the treatment of addiction a little more manageable. They also teach important lessons on life and overcoming the cognitive mindsets of addiction. The River plays a part in this. Something like fly fishing takes tremendous concentration and discipline. Such discipline can be carried over into the practices of long term sobriety. We want drug rehab at Cirque Lodge to be more than just rehab; we want it to be an experience. Experiential activities, like the ones that use the river, can be influential in having such life changing experiences.
