Working With an Addiction Sponsor
For those in recovery from alcoholism or drug addiction, a sponsor is a nice thing to have. A sponsor is a one-on-one support network usually appointed by a 12-step fellowship. A sponsor can be a valuable crutch in times of need when faced with the temptations to use or drink. During alcohol and drug rehab at Cirque Lodge, our residents begin the work of the 12-step program. After residents are established in the drug rehab program, they have a chance of being involved in a 12-step fellowship and working with an addiction sponsor. This can be preparatory for working with a sponsor once addiction treatment is completed.
Addiction sponsors are an example of successful sobriety. They were at one point in similar shoes. In working the 12-step program, they found sobriety. In successful recovery it is role of such individuals to take the message to others and to help them. Alcoholics and addicts need influential people in their lives at times. An addiction sponsor can be that influential person and can be a great help in the times and social situations when the temptation to use is strong.
What can’t be done alone can be accomplished together. An addiction sponsor can provide needed support in times of need. For many, it begins with the help of drug rehab. After that, it is the support and help of individuals like an addiction sponsor.
