Admissions Assessment

In the past few decades, scientists and medical professionals have done extensive research into the science of addiction. Psychologists, therapists, neuroscientists, and addiction specialists have explored the causes of addiction and the best treatment methods.

We use mental and physical assessments to gain a comprehensive understanding of your addiction and design the most effective treatment plan for you. At Cirque Lodge, our medical professionals can use this insight to offer the most accurate and up-to-date treatment available.

Confidential and Compassionate

We understand that talking about your addiction can be difficult, especially in the first stages of recovery. We can assure you that our assessments are conducted with compassion and without judgment. We want to make the process as easy as possible for you.

Any information you share will be kept entirely confidential.

Mental Assessment

At Cirque Lodge, we provide a range of mental assessments to gain the best possible insight into your addiction. These include:

● Psychological testing
● Neuropsychological testing
● Cognitive testing
● Personality testing

Psychological Testing

The purpose of psychological testing is to identify any co-occurring disorders you have that may contribute to your addiction. These may include depression, anxiety, and panic disorders.

While neuropsychological testing focuses specifically on the effect drug abuse has had on your brain, psychological testing gives a broader overview of emotional or behavioral disorders.

While neuropsychological testing focuses specifically on the effect drug abuse has had on your brain, psychological testing gives a broader overview of emotional or behavioral disorders.

At Cirque Lodge, we use a variety of different psychological tests in our assessments. These include:

  • Structured clinical interview for DSM-V
  • Personality Assessment Inventory
  • Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview
  • Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory-III
  • Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI)

Diagnosing co-occurring disorders is an essential part of our assessment process. SAMSHA’s research finds that almost half of people with a substance use disorder have a co-occurring disorder.

Co-occurring disorders are often the underlying cause of substance use. If left untreated, the same patterns may re-trigger substance abuse and addiction even after an initial recovery.

At Cirque Lodge, we treat co-occurring disorders in our dual diagnosis program. This provides you with a complete healing process where you recover from the disorders that underlie your addiction. Diagnosis through psychological testing is the first stage of this process.

Psychological testing also helps us identify and address interpersonal and intrapersonal issues that could affect your recovery.

Addiction Assessment

Addiction testing assesses the extent of your addiction to drugs or alcohol. We will ask you how many units you are drinking or how many drugs you are using. This helps us to design the most effective treatment plan for you.

We also review your existing prescriptions and diagnoses to offer the appropriate level of care throughout your time at the center. This information is particularly important for your treatment during the detoxification process.

Neuropsychological Testing

Neuropsychological testing assesses the effect drug use has had on your brain. It informs us which mental skills your addiction has impacted the most and which ones may still function well.

During the assessment, a team member will ask you to answer several questions verbally and repeat specific sentences or phrases back to them. They will also give you a sheet of written questions to answer. We may also ask you to move around or perform specific actions in a particular order.

The results of these tests will give us in-depth information about your mental skills, including:

  • Cognition and emotional health
  • Executive functioning
  • Working memory function
  • Attention
  • Language skills
  • Motor coordination
  • Memory

Our analysts then compare your results to other people who have a similar background and history to yourself. This gives us a clearer picture of the extent to which your addiction has affected your brain. We use this information to design the most accurate and beneficial treatment plan for you.

Physical Health Assessment

During physical health assessments, we measure the physical effects of drug abuse and addiction on your body. We test for certain diseases that may have resulted from the addiction. The National Institute of Drug Abuse lists physical testing as a principle of effective treatment.

Our standard tests include:

  • Hepatitis C and HIV blood tests
  • Liver function test

Physical testing allows us to pinpoint any physical conditions that might require treatment during your time at Cirque Lodge or afterward. Our team will incorporate this into your inpatient treatment and aftercare programs.
